people need for these kinds of campaigns. delawareans showed up and showed out. i really ran on the issues that i heard from them. the desire to make sure we had a strong economy. i worked on supply chains and strengthening those and workforce development because i was secretary of labor in delaware. i also work on things like clean air and clean drinking water. these are basic and foundational. that is important to a states like delaware which climate change really impacts us every single day and then just lowering the cost of prescription drugs for seniors i was able to get legislation into the inflation reduction act, particularly for lower income seniors. to me, i want to do all those things. that's what delaware talk to me about. i also think in the senate, it provides an opportunity to really dig deeper into these issues. to be one of 100. to represent strongly and also to deal with what i was talking
voice, experience being widowed. that was our propelled me to even run in the first place, was there a dark time of mine which is why the theme of our campaign is bright hope. so i would bring i think that delaware flavor because we are urban, suburban, rural and coastal. i would bring the work experience. i would also bring the people of delaware, our voices and i would bring my lived experiences. >> according to a poll from the delaware journalism collaborative, that was released this may, 66% of delaware residents say that economic issues are more important to them than social ones. you are a former secretary of labor in delaware, a former president and ceo of the urban league in that local urban league. all dealing with economic issues, how would you work with republicans in the senate because republicans in the senate seem to like to emphasize the social issues and divisive once if i will be honest. >> you know, i think you really had on. it and i talk to delawareans,
to be able to work on things like lowering the cost of prescription drugs for our seniors. and ensuring the delawareans have clean air and drinking water. that has been the work that we have done based on what we've heard from delawareans. i would love to continue that work in the senate. and also be able to focus on a deeper level on some of those fundamental freedoms and rights, on our democracy, i mean, you showed me in the chamber, and i think about how important, number one, our democracy is and voting, rights and also issues of reproductive freedom. so for, me our theme is bright hope, because that's also what i hope to bring to the campaign trail. and also to the senate. >> that anticipates the next question i was going to raise, which is your campaign slogan is a bright. hope but that's more than a slogan, isn't it that is the name of your church? >> yes, so that church was actually my grandmother's church for 70 years.
appeal of congress? what do you think you can get done there that you can't get done in a state legislative body? >> i have seen over the last three years in a delaware state senate that the possibilities for progress that exist in state legislatures like delaware, that's why i ran for the state senate and it's how i've been able to pass legislation like paid family and medical leave here in just my first term. how often able to pass bills expanding access to health care. why have been fighting for and helping to champion gun safety and reproductive rights. but ultimately, what i've seen is that for so many of the issues that matter to delawareans, like the issues i just mentioned, ultimately we need federal action and federal investment to protect our rights and to meet the needs of workers and families. that's why i'm running for congress. to build on a progress we have made here in delaware, but to truly protect our rights. protect reproductive rights, to ensure that assault weapons aren't getting into our borders, to afford early childhood
it's not a lock for senators -- is there something that you think you must now do in this campaign, in order to hold on to that seat for democrats? >> will you know, again, i want to keep doing what i've been doing. we have been able to work on things that affect all delawareans. i was the first person in our state to get on the egg committee in 120 years. and so we have farmers in the southern part of our state. i've been able to focus on environmental justice issues and we have places because for the lowest in elevation in the country. and so for me, i want to keep doing what we've been doing, because our focus and my focus has always been about bringing people together, which is why the theme of our campaign is bright hope. we want people to have a bright hope for our future. and so that's really the theme, and that's what i will continue to do. >> congresswoman lisa blunt rochester, who might be joining us on this program two years from now as senator rochester,
sounds like you have friends in high places. >> well, you know, i have to say, it has truly been an honor. and, i think that part of it is how we operate in delaware, where we try to get multiple sides. as you may know, i am in our progressive caucus. i'm in the new dems, i'm in the women's caucus, i'm in the congressional black caucus, and was an assistant whip. and so i try to keep my finger on the pulse, but especially on the pulse of delaware. and so, it's been great to work with the administration as well as the president. >> what are you hoping to accomplish in the senate? >> you know, i have to tell you, listening to delawareans, i start with the things that we have been working on for the past six years. and that's everything from jobs and the economy, that focus, and our supply chains, to lowering the cost of prescription drugs for our seniors, to our work on the

electric, what will that do to your bottom line? >> the moment of cars of gas-powered cars away from delaware will have a note negative effect of increasing the payments to delawareans. >> todd: if this hurts people's bottom line, not selling as many cars, it will hurt jeep's bottom line. why does a company do something that cost shareholders money? that is what i can't wrap my head around. >> jeep was looking to get grandfathered into federal regulations that would have allowed it to ramp up ev's to the market place. since they got purchased, they
