Dead at 93: Walter Mondale the first U.S. presidential nominee to pick a woman as running mate

Walter Mondale, a leading liberal Democratic voice of the late 20th century who was U.S. vice-president under Jimmy Carter and lost in a historic landslide to Ronald Reagan in the 1984 presidential election, died on Monday at age 93, his family said.
“It is with profound sadness that we share news that our beloved dad passed away today in Minneapolis, Minnesota,” the family said in a statement.

Evolving from pounds, shillings and pence, introducing the new system was a mammoth feat of public relations and communication leading up to the official change over day on February 15, 1971. You can read more about the introduction of decimalisation here.It’s a time fondly remembered by many so we asked our readers whether they remembered the change.
