On Wednesday's edition of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," columnist Eugene Scott noted some key reasons why Republicans have been unable to level effective political attacks at President Joe Biden.
"Republicans haven't yet figured out a way to nail Joe Biden," said anchor Joe Scarborough. "I remember, during the campaign, calling him 'Teflon Joe' because none of the attacks from the left seemed to stick, and Donald Trump, who could label everybody and get under everybody's skin, he never laid a glove on Biden. This is a guy who, for some reason, Republicans just can't demonize."
p "There are a couple reasons for that, Joe," said Scott. "One is the fact that Joe Biden is not a rookie. He's a veteran. And many of these Republicans are aware of him not just from the Obama administration but from his time in the Senate. And they're aware of his personal story and his narrative, and they're drawn to that, and they believe he is a decent man, genuinely invested in passing policy that benefits them. He's not concerned about the culture wars or the politics that dominate conservative media most nights. And he is showing that and proving that, and has been able to point to those results. As you noted, voters see that and they appreciate that and they respect that." /p p "Another thing that is really making it very difficult for these things to stick with Joe is that Republicans just have a messaging problem," said Scott. "And they are concerned about the conservative media far more than they are concerned about conservative voters. So they listen to those who are bound to attack them and criticize them for taking stands, even if that ultimately doesn't help them with the people who sent them to Washington. And until they figure out what it is that they are about and what they do best, they're going to have a very difficult time remaining popular, and that's why you see these numbers showing how unsupported their ideas are when it comes to these issues that Joe Biden is trying to move forward." /p p Watch below: /p p class "shortcode-media shortcode-media-youtube"

Fox News host Dana Perino on Wednesday put House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on the hot seat over revelations that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is being probed by the FBI for potential sex trafficking charges.
While appearing on Fox News, McCarthy was reminded by Perino of his past statements that Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) should be removed from the House Intelligence Committee after revelations that a suspected Chinese spy had infiltrated his office.
p "So by that same logic, will you take any action to remove Matt Gaetz from the Judiciary Committee while he's under investigation by the DOJ over whether he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old and paid for her to travel with him?" she asked. /p p McCarthy said that he wanted to let the investigation play out and give Gaetz a chance to tell his side of the story. /p p However, if the accusations of sex trafficking a minor are true, he agreed that "we would remove him" from his committee assignments. /p p Perino also asked McCarthy if he could explain why a href "https://www.rawstory.com/matt-gaetz-no-vote-trafficking-bill/" target "_blank" Gaetz was the only Republican to vote against an anti-sex trafficking bill /a in 2017. /p p "No, I have no idea whatsoever why he would vote against that," he replied. /p p em Watch the video below /em . br /p p br /p p br /p div class "rm-embed embed-media" blockquote class "twitter-tweet" "If it comes out to be true, we would remove him" -- Kevin McCarthy says he'll remove Gaetz from committees if sex trafficking allegations turn out to be true a href "https://t.co/GylpQZ4AoI" pic.twitter.com/GylpQZ4AoI /a br — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) a href "https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1377269609464745990?ref_src twsrc%5Etfw" March 31, 2021 /a /blockquote script async "" charset "utf-8" src "https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" /script /div

Angry Lebanese protesters blocked Monday major roads in the capital Beirut and across the country in what they declared a "day of rage" against the political stalemate and a deteriorating economic situation.
Burning tyres and sand barriers were used to block major roads leading to the capital, causing severe traffic jams and preventing many people from reaching their work and businesses.

Israel reportedly informed U.S. officials that it was behind a Tuesday mine attack on an Iranian vessel stationed in the Red Sea, a dangerous escalation that came on the same day American and Iranian negotiators took part in European-led talks in Vienna on the 2015 nuclear agreement.
The timing of the attack, which Iranian media outlets reported Tuesday without assigning blame, raised suspicions that it was carried out with the express purpose of undermining steps toward a diplomatic solution on the nuclear accord. In 2018, U.S. President Donald Trump violated the agreement, which Israel's right-wing government has opposed from the beginning.

China to US: Taiwan is 'red line that should not be crossed'

The controversial decision to pause the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines was harshly criticized in an op-ed published by
The Washington Post.
The column was written by Govind Persad, an assistant professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and William F. Parker, an assistant professor of pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Chicago and assistant director of the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics.
"The Center for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) this week made no recommendation on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, meaning the CDC's initial decision to pause administration of the vaccine will likely remain in place until at least next Friday. As a result, 10 million doses of the vaccine will sit unused in refrigerators as hundreds of thousands of Americans are infected with covid-19. As infections and hospitalizations rise in many states, slowing down vaccinations was a deadly mistake," they wrote.

The Alternative for Germany (AfD), a far-right party and the strongest opposition force in the national parliament, has been declared a case for state surveillance, sources from the domestic intelligence agency confirmed to dpa on Wednesday.
The entire party is to be monitored on account of suspected right-wing extremism, state-level intelligence agencies were informed during a videoconference with the federal head of the agency, Thomas Haldenwang, the sources said.
