from january 6, errol, when you see this, what does that tell you? >> it tells you that he's setting himself up a set piece for either a rerun of 2020 or a strong reminder to people that what he is trying to counter, what he's offering is not just competent technical management of the economy and of the government, but a way to counter this dangerous movement. it was really president biden who sort of brought to the fore front always talk about this maga movement, these maga republicans. he's not trying to defeat an opponent who isn't named just yet but trying to defeat a movement. that's i think what he is evoking from the first minute this have video. >> before you even see joe biden you see scenes from january 6. professor, the other thing and arlette got to this, the biden campaign team knows that age will be an issue so when you do see president biden in this video, when he does start to talk, is there anything in there that you think they are putting
republican primary polling, and there was an interesting number that jumped out to me in a wall street journal poll out just today, errol. there are plenty of people who actually disapprove of the jobs that both donald trump and joe biden have done in the white house. but of those people who disapprove of both. biden leads trump 54. to 15% explain why that's important. yeah it is important because if we have a mar-a-lago to 2016, in which you had really two unpopular candidates running against each other where hillary clinton very unpopular donald trump, very unpopular, you run a different kind of a race. um and the fight for independence takes on a very different cast. so you know if the what voters are telling pollsters, at least at this stage is that we're not thrilled about either of these candidates. but we can live with about the president that we have now, um that's good news for
away. thanks for help. so with us now cnn political commentator errol louis he is also the political anchor of spectrum news. so, errol next week. what do you make of the timing? well the timing is just about right. he showed in 2020 that a start right at the end of april. he could put together the money you get the momentum together, build out a national organization and win the race. it'll be even easier as an incumbent to do that. and so he's giving himself a lot of lead time. i think the unspoken backdrop to that, of course, john is that there were questions that were raised that would never have been raised about any other incumbent president about whether they're going to run for reelection. the questions that were raised were frantically sort of a subtle commentary about his age and ability, and that's going to be one of those questions that's hanging over this campaign. at least initially, that joe biden is gonna have to put the bed sometimes not so subtle. the other aspect of this is donald trump, who is rising. in
like to have that seat. so california democrats are really trying to nudge her toward the exit. um i see this playing out as very likely. really some kind of compromise being struck to sort of kick the can down the road. it's a very old senate. if you look at the average age, and i think they're gonna there's gonna be a lot of sympathy, frankly, even from republicans for dianne feinstein's plight and looking to 2024 errol. the trump campaign is reporting a surge and donations following his indictment by a manhattan grand jury, so the reporting of the new figures is that trump raised a combined $18.8 million in his first quarter. um how i mean trump's legal troubles may be good for him in the short term, but how do you think they might impact his 2024 run with potential? indictments on the horizon. look he's doing it the hard way. you know, i mean, i think they're trying to make lemonade out of lemons, and he's
in texas. there's little that congress can do following the court's decision to suspend the use of medication, abortion drugs, but democrats in particular are eager to weigh in on this in person and see what legislation including messaging bills they can put forward to force republicans on the record , and lastly, house investigations are continuing to heat up. we're seeing more republican chairman begin to issue subpoenas as they enter into the fourth month of being in the majority. on monday, the house judiciary committee will hold a field hearing in new york city as they continue to escalate their investigation into manhattan district attorney alvin bragg. alright elena train . thank you. so let's get some perspective now from cnn political commentator errol louis. good morning to you, errol. so let's start with the debt ceiling, of course, and the u. s could run out of money to pay its debts by this summer. where do things stand, especially with kevin mccarthy's efforts to get republicans united behind a plan? kevin mccarthy. good morning. aymara kevin mccarthy is in a very difficult position, because if
to have the misimpression that michael cohen's testimony, the former lawyer to donald trump, is what the whole case turns on . i find that hard to believe again. we'll know for sure after the indictment is unsealed, but michael cohen's lawyer says that there's lots and lots of corroborate have evidence that's out their phone records, financial records bank records, all of which were discovered, probably last year while they were doing the other case. but is it also the evidence? if he were indeed you know the central figure that they were just going to rely on and rely on rely on that they would say, okay, you need to be quiet and he's been getting any davis giving you think maybe you're right on the mark. michael cohen's got a podcast. he's got a book. he's got all he's got a lot to say he's got a lot of anger. i don't think the case is going to turn on his credibility. certainly they wouldn't have brought the case of that. we're receipts as they called. yes thank you, errol. very much. appreciate it. people should read your piece. it's fascinating. so it's election day in your former home
