I don’t see a lot of new babies being named Robert these days. I used to have such a popular name. What happened?
The Social Security Administration is out with the list of the most popular baby names for 2020, and it’s pretty much the same list it was last time. The top male name is Liam and the top female name is Olivia. Other names in the top ten include Noah, Oliver, James, Emma, Ava, and Mia.
At that link you can see how the most popular names have changed over the years and even check lists by decade and by state. It’s interesting to see how names that were popular in the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s — names like David and Steven and Mary and Patricia — barely register in an era of Elijahs and Harpers. William and Elizabeth are still pretty popular though.

Three years later, Mississippi John Hurt issued his own “Stack O’ Lee Blues,” a decidedly more delicate and mournful take. He was fixated on Shelton’s five-dollar hat, the theft of which allegedly precipitated the murder. To Hurt, it was a pathetic rationale for a senseless act. But for other performers, the Stetson established Stack’s flash and fearlessness, a terrifying exercise of free will that roiled St. Louis’s white power structure. (Shelton received two pardons from two separate governors before dying of tuberculosis in 1912.) During the first part of 1950’s two-parter “Stack-A’Lee” -- written and performed by New Orleans singer/pianist Archibald -- it is noted that Billy took the Stetson in a dice game. In the second, the police kill Stack, but Stack dethrones the devil. (Call it a draw.) It is this version that Price -- born in neighboring Kenner, Louisiana -- probably knew best. Like Stack and Billy, he was a gambler. But Price gambled exclusively on himself.

Lloyd Price, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer behind such classic hits as “Personality” and “Stagger Lee,” has died at the age of 88.
Price’s death was confirmed by his widow, Jackie. “I am so touched by the outpouring of love and tribute for the passing of my husband Lloyd Price, who passed peacefully on May 3, 2021 at Schaffer Extended Care in Westchester County, N.Y.,” she explained to
Billboard. “Lloyd’s music crossed many boundaries and carried him to all corners of the world. He got the nickname ‘Mr. Personality’ because of his biggest hit but he also earned that name because he was charismatic, generous, smart, funny, talented with a very kind heart. I am so grateful for everyone who loves his music and have precious memories of his many songs. From the deepest part of me thank you, love to all.”

Price, who was born in the New Orleans suburb of Kenner, Louisiana, kicked off his music career in the early 1950s with a series of R&B hits, including the chart-topping “Lawdy Miss Clawdy” in 1952.
