SOFIA, May 27 (Reuters) - Bulgaria’s state nuclear power plant Kozloduy reconnected on Thursday its 1,000 megawatt (MW) nuclear reactor Unit 5 after a planned maintenance and refuelling, the plant said.
Kozloduy, situated at the Danube River, said in a statement that the reactor was reconnected to the national power grid at 0651 GMT, after a clearance by the country’s nuclear regulator. The reactor was shut on April 17.
Its other 1000 MW reactor, Unit 6, whose capacity was temporarily decreased by 50% on May 25 after a shutdown of a pump in its non-nuclear part, was working at a gross load of 752 MW, information at the plant’s website showed. (Reporting by Tsvetelia Tsolova)

PARIS (Reuters) - French state-controlled power group EDF has made a binding offer to build six third-generation EPR nuclear reactors at the Jaitapur site in India’s Maharashtra region, EDF said on Friday.
EDF said the project would have an installed capacity of 9.6 gigawatts (GW), and would generate up to 75 terawatt hours (TWh) per year and cover the annual consumption of 70 million Indian households, while avoiding the emission of 80 million tons of CO2 per year.

Mexico's anti-trust watchdog files Supreme Court case against electricity reforms

MEXICO CITY, April 22 (Reuters) - Mexico’s antitrust authority on Thursday said it had filed a dispute in the Supreme Court against the government’s electricity reforms.
The Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE) said some of the changes proposed by Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s government prevent competition in the sector.
“It breaks the rule of open and non-discriminatory access to distribution and transmission networks, which reduces the ability to compete for certain generators and traders,” Cofece said in a statement. (Reporting by Adriana Barera; Writing by Drazen Jorgic; Editing by Frank Jack Daniel)

Japan to double inter-regional power grid to boost renewable energy-Nikkei

TOKYO, April 16 (Reuters) - Japan aims to double its inter-regional power grid capacity by adding up to 23 gigawatts to help speed expansion of renewable energy such as offshore wind farms, the Nikkei business daily said on its online news site late on Thursday.
The move comes as Japan gears up its drive to expand cleaner energy to help the country achieve its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050, and as the weak power grid has been a hindrance to the spread of renewable energy in Japan.
There is a plan to build undersea cables to connect the northern island of Hokkaido and the main Honshu island where power demand is high, Nikkei said, citing a plan compiled by the industry ministry and the Organization for Cross-Regional Coordination of Transmission Operators (OCCTO).

PARIS (Reuters) - Aircraft leasing giant AerCap’s acquisition of rival GECAS will reduce competition in the aircraft market, the head of global airline industry body IATA warned on Wednesday.
“We understand that the situation of the leasing companies is difficult,” IATA Director General Alexandre de Juniac told Reuters. “But combining the two to have a big player (in) a very dominant situation is not good news for us.”
The world’s two largest aircraft lessors announced plans last week to combine, with Ireland’s AerCap agreeing to pay more than $30 billion for GECAS, the air finance business of General Electric.
