The way the president has laid out his priorities from mitigation, both from power plants and mobile sources, cars and trucks, is sound. It is a comprehensive, strategic approach. But, in the face of persistent, unyielding opposition, both from most segments of the Republican Party, as well as the oil, coal, and gas industries, the president has not always reached the strongest longterm view, and sometimes steps back from what actually needs to be done.
