Julius Randle restrained by Knicks teammates after controversial call

USA TODAY
An entertaining, down-to-the-wire contest Monday between New York rivals partially turned on a controversial call in the closing seconds and had one fuming All-Star being restrained by his teammates.
The Brooklyn Nets held on for a 117-112 win after New York Knicks forward Julius Randle was called for a travel with 3.2 seconds left. Trailing 115-112, Randle tried to attempt a 3-pointer with five seconds left. As he rose up, Nets defender Kyrie Irving got his hand on the ball, which caused Randle to juggle it without shooting. When Randle tried to dribble again on his way down, referee Scott Foster called a travel.

NBA players back from injury can make impact on playoff picture

USA TODAY
The Boston Celtics had their four-game winning streak snapped Thursday when they opened the second half of the season against the Brooklyn Nets.
There was a silver lining in the 121-109 loss, though, with the return of Marcus Smart. The guard had missed Boston's previous 18 games with a strained calf. Smart played well with 19 points in 21 minutes (4-of-6 shooting overall, 3-of-5 on 3s, 8-of-9 on free throws), a promising sign for a Celtics team that missed his defense and ball-handling.
"It felt good to be back out there with those guys," Smart said. "Obviously first game back, a little jitters. But it’s like riding a bike."

NBA All-Star: Steph Curry wins 3-point shootout on dramatic final shot

Golden State’s Steph Curry changed the NBA with his 3-point shooting.
Sometime next season, he will pass Ray Allen for most 3s in NBA history with a career shooting percentage above .400. He will go down as the best 3-point shooter in history.
On Sunday, Curry won the NBA All-Star 3-point contest for the second time, joining Larry Bird, Craig Hodges, Mark Price, Jeff Hornacek, Peja Stojakovic and Jason Kapono as multiple-time winners.
Curry scored 28 points in the final round to edge Utah’s Mike Conley, who registered 27 points.
Curry started slow in the final round, missing four of his five shots on the first rack of basketballs from the corner. He started to heat up on his second rack, making four of five and then finished by making nine of his final 11 shots at Atlanta's State Farm Arena.

Rockets news: James Harden's new stance on Stephen Silas amid trade demand

December 29, 2020
Before his first season as an NBA head coach began, Stephen Silas’ job was made dramatically tougher with the Houston Rockets.
Russell Westbrook and James Harden both demanded trades, Westbrook got traded, and then Harden showed up late to training camp as he spent time partying in Atlanta and Las Vegas. Silas’ hire was reportedly one of the reasons behind the 2018 MVP’s trade request.
John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Kenyon Martin Jr., Eric Gordon, Chris Clemons, Mason Jones, and Ben McLemore have still not played this season as they adhere to the league’s COVID-19 protocols.
While Silas is still seeking his first head coaching win amid the tumultuous times, he may be starting to win over Harden.
