Burn After Reading: Does the Coens' comedy feature cinemas' best ever ensemble?

Burn After Reading (16, 92mins) Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen ****
Osbourne Cox's (John Malkovich) world is falling apart.
Having been taken off the Balkans desk, allegedly because of a drinking problem, the CIA analyst promptly chooses to end his career. That decision is met with dismay by his wife, Katie (Tilda Swinton), who saves her greatest derision for his plan to write his memoirs.
She has her own agenda anyway. For months, Katie has been carrying on an affair with US Marshal Harry Pfarrer (George Clooney) and this might be just the opportunity to divorce Osbourne that she has been waiting for. But first, she needs to check all the family finances, and so she instructs her lawyers to do some digging. However, when a disk is left on the floor of local gym Hardbodies, two employees – Linda Litzke (Frances McDormand) and Chad Feldheimer (Brad Pitt) – mistakenly believe they have stumbled onto some state secrets and set about seeing how they can use them to their advantage.

Journalist Jessica Bruder wrote
Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century in order to draw attention to the growing number of older Americans who began traipsing across the nation after the economic crash of the late 2000s. Their purpose: find seasonal jobs, stay a while, and then move on, seeing as much as they possibly can while making ends meet. Bruder's nonfiction work has since been adapted into the much more simply titled
.
Directed by Chloé Zhao, the film focuses on one of these older Americans: Fern, a woman out of a job when the manufacturing plant she's worked in for so long shuts down. To make matters worse, her husband passes away, leaving her with next to nothing. Her decision to become a nomad, then, is an easy one — a way for her to move on both physically and emotionally. If Fern actress Frances McDormand seems familiar to you, here's where you may have seen her before.
