Swiss Women's Series: Fierro, Gunina and Bodnaruk among winners

The Swiss Queens Wednesday Series, launched in partnership with the International Chess Federation (FIDE), is an initiative aimed at boosting women’s participation in chess. With tournaments every Wednesday, the series has attracted some of the strongest players from around the world. Five editions were played in February, with Martha Fierro, Valentina Gunina, Anastasia Bodnaruk, Gunay Mammadzada and Polina Shuvalova emerging victorious in each of them.

Georgian Women's Championship: Lela Javakhishvili grabs fifth title

Lela Javakhishvili emerged as the winner of the Georgian Women’s Championship 2024. One of the most successful Georgian chess players, Lela clinched her fifth national title. As is often the case in Georgian Women’s championships, it was a very close race among the top-rated players and the members of the very strong national team. Nino Batsiashvili and Meri Arabidze finished in second and third place, respectively.

Spanish League: Deac's DuoBeniajan in the lead

The Honour Division of the Spanish League is taking place on September 16-22 in Linares, Jaén. Eight teams take part in the single round-robin competition. Each match is played over six boards, with the obligatory inclusion of a female representative on each team’s roster. World Women's Team Ch: Georgia and Kazakhstan to fight for gold

Both semifinals at the World Women’s Team Championship in Bydgoszcz were decided in blitz tiebreakers. After trading wins in the two rapid sets, Kazakhstan and Georgia obtained clear wins in the 3-minute games that decided the matches. The FIDE World Women's Team Championship starts in Bydgoszcz

Tuesday is the official start of the Women's World Cup in Bydgoszcz. The first two rounds will be played on Wednesday. 12 teams are taking part and the tournament will be played with a preliminary round in two groups, followed by a knockout system. FIDE has announced the line-ups and the draw for the groups.

Magnus Carlsen, Leinier Dominguez and Parham Maghsoodloo were the three 2700+ players who kicked off with a win in round 3 of the FIDE World Cup. World Cup: So escapes, Tin and Sanal claim big scalps

Shocking results were seen on the fifth day of action at the FIDE World Cup in Baku. In the open, Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov were knocked out by players in the 2500-2600 rating band — Vahap Sanal and Tin Jingyao (pictured) respectively — while sixth seed Wesley So barely escaped with a draw to take his match against Emre Can to tiebreaks.
