STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The head of New York City’s public schools has announced he will resign.
On Friday, NYC Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza announced he is stepping down from his post as the city’s top education official.
“Over these three years, Richard Carranza has kept us moving forward,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “Strong academic performance, great strides for fairness and equality. He’s proven that we must do both.”
“To all my colleagues at the Department of Education, it is incredibly hard to say goodbye to you, and in my culture, we don’t say goodbye, we say ‘hasta luego,’ until we see you again,” Carranza said. “It’s been my privilege to be your colleague.”

given free space to run her charter schools and bring in a huge paycheck for herself. charter school administrators may cry poverty over the threat that de blasio will charge them rent for their spaces, but the people who run charter schools rake in the big bucks. at least 16 charter school ceos including eva moscowitz earned more money than the new york city schools chancellor dennis wolcott many the 2011-2012 school year. see, conservatives love charter schools because it's privatization. many liberals think charter schools are a new form of modern-day segregation. where they're picking and choosing kids out of neighborhoods. the lack of investment in public education is the major concern when it comes to e equal opportunity for children. joining me tonight for our rapid response panel, diane ravech, research of education at new york university and dr. eric dyson, professor at georgetown

was made even greater when governor andrew cuomo included it as part of a state of emergency. quote, new yorkers should stay off of the roads and remain in their homes until the worst of the storm has passed. the worst, which hit hardest during the morning commute, passed by lunchtime. rain followed, as did a hail of criticism. with this comment made by the new york city schools chancellor seemingly out of touch certainly with the weather. >> it has totally stopped snowing. it is absolutely a beautiful day out there right now. >> reporter: during the last major storm several weeks ago, schools remained open and only 44%, less than half of all students, showed up. still the mayor stuck to his choice citing historical precedent. >> since 1978 i think our figures, it has been 11 times -- i'll check the facts, but 11 times schools have been closed. so it's a rarity and something

right now. it's not getting better. i don't think it can get particularly worse. but he wanted to get better so he could take back the house, gain those 17 seats in the house, push his agenda in the congress and congress has is becoming to a great extent, alienated from this white house. republicans are complaining after the charm offensive, they haven't heard from him. we're getting a flat line presidency. it may not be so good for him. it's probably not really great for the country either at five months in to have a presidency flat lining. >> paul: so far, only one poll shows he's down. the rest show him sticking at 50 or above in his approval rating. we will watch that carefully. still ahead, new national education standards have some conservatives seeing red. former new york city schools chancellor joe klein tells us why he's behind the common core next plan for small business lets you connect up to 25 devices on one easy to manage plan. that means your smartphone, her blackberry, his laptop, mark's smartphone
