Patrick Schick won't have to get past Omer Toprak when Bayer Leverkusen travel to the Weser Stadium to take on Werder Bremen on Saturday (kick-off: 3.30pm GMT+2).

The Werder slide stretched to seven defeats on the spin with the 3-1 loss to Union Berlin on Matchday 31 and the pressure is ramping up on Florian Kohfeldt. His team now sit 14th, just one point better off than Cologne in the relegation playoff place of 16th and only three clear of Hertha Berlin in the second automatic relegation spot. Hertha also have two games in hand, meaning Werder - who stayed up by the skin of their teeth via the playoff last season - are at real risk of the drop. To make matters worse, centre-back Toprak has suffered a setback in training and will miss the game. The Werder losing streak has also coincided with Josh Sargent's five-game run without a goal, but Kohfeldt will be buoyed by the return from injury of Leonardo Bittencourt, while both Davie Selke and Niclas Füllkrug join the attack.

Berlin, March 11 : Werder Bremen scored twice in the second half to beat relegation-threatened Arminia Bielefeld 2-0 in a postponed fixture of the 20th round in the Bundesliga.
Newly promoted Bielefeld remain winless in their seventh straight match after wasting a number of chances. Bremen, on the other hand, were clinical in front of goal to snatch all three points on the road.
The match had been postponed in February due to heavy snowfall in Bielefeld. The hosts started well as they created the first half chances through Amos Pieper and Andreas Voglsammer in the opening stages on Wednesday, Xinhua news reported.

Real Madrid bounced back after their Copa del Rey humiliation as Karim Benzema’s brace helped them to a 4-1 win at Alaves.
Real, back in LaLiga action three days on from the embarrassing cup loss to third-tier Alcoyano, took the lead after 15 minutes via Casemiro’s header.
Benzema doubled the advantage with a fierce strike in the 41st minute having been teed up by Eden Hazard, who then slotted in the third just before the interval.

Meet Christian Streich, German football's philosophical coach


Berlin (AFP) – Embattled Bayern Munich face the Bundesliga’s longest-serving current coach on Sunday in Christian Streich, the unorthodox trainer who has made buoyant Freiburg a force to be reckoned with, especially in recent weeks.
Freiburg have climbed the German table from 14th to eighth on the back of a club-record five straight league wins.
Last Saturday’s 5-0 thrashing of Cologne was Freiburg’s biggest league victory for more than 20 years.
Not that Streich gets excited about such things.
“It’s not about records – the important thing is that we keep developing,” he insisted.
