SINGAPORE: In 2018, 19.1 million tourists came to Singapore and spent S$27.7 billion here.
The same year, Singaporeans went on 24.9 million international trips and spent S$34 billion overseas.

So, when COVID-19 kept overseas visitors out and trapped us all here, depriving us of our Japan sakura fixes, Zermatt ski trips, Chatuchak shopping binges and Maldives beach vibes, Singaporeans could have been counted on to prop up our tourism industry.

We try the new 'choose-your-own-adventure' interactive movie theatre experience: How is it better than what we already have?

Golden Village
If you've watched or heard of the Netflix film Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, you'd be familiar with the concept of interactive films — imagine the video version of the hit 1980s Choose Your Own Adventure book series.
But the 2018 award-winning movie isn't the first to have viewers make choices for the protagonists.
That honour goes to Late Shift, a British crime thriller first screened in 2017 at the Cannes Film Festival and made available on PlayStation, Xbox, Apple TV, and other platforms. Now, it is also the first feature-length interactive film to receive a wide theatrical release, and the film will soon be available in Singapore at Golden Village.

The museum, popular with Instagram users for its rainbow sprinkle pool, will open in August at a 60,000 sq ft property in Dempsey.

Emerging from the pandemic, tours and activities are becoming more intimate and digitalised, and featuring sharper storytelling, finds Anne Somanas
The shift in guest touchpoints for experiences post-Covid is not just about safety; it’s about new forms of delivery, more deliberate choices by travellers and the rise of virtual and hybrid experiences that can enhance experiences even further.
Heavier doses of social distancing and sanitisation, more intimate experiences in smaller groups, a proclivity for less congested spaces and new forms of delivery and new ways of immersion will shape the future of travel experiences, said tours and activities specialists throughout Asia.
