Last spring, several months into the pandemic, a series of images appeared on Instagram, depicting a luxury home nestled into the cliffs of the Scala dei Turchi, on the coast of Italy. The building appeared to be sculpted from cream-colored adobe, and its rounded, uncovered windows and doors looked out over a peaceful aquamarine sea. Furniture by Gerd Lange for Bofinger and Le Corbusier sat invitingly by an ocean-fed pool; inside, Picasso ceramics were arranged artfully around a minimalist seating area, and bathed in early-afternoon light. The residence, Villa Saraceni, was the work of designers Riccardo Fornoni and Charlotte Taylor. It also didn’t exist in real life: the house was built with rendering software, and its design was entirely speculative. In reality, the Scala dei Turchi is a tourist destination that has seen erosion and damage from overuse. In 2007, the surrounding municipality applied to designate the area a

Tourist guide conducts cemetery tours in Singapore to survive Covid-19

Singaporean tourist guide Ng has been conducting cemetery walking tours to keep his business afloat. — STB
Touring a cemetery is probably not the most thrilling idea for many people, especially in Singapore where superstitions still dictate the daily lives of some locals.
But when the Covid-19 pandemic brought international travel to a standstill, tourist guide Chris Ng decided to turn to death to survive.
Ng, who is affectionately known as Uncle Chris, began to conduct walking tours around cemeteries, a territory that was relatively untouched in the realm of guided tours in Singapore.
And to Ng’s pleasant delight, people were actually interested to walk among the dead.

An Indonesian selfie paradise has been ordered to destroy one of its most popular attractions due to a copyright violation. The offending photo op,
Love Light, appears to be a ripoff of
Urban Light (2008), the famed public art installation by the late artist Chris Burden.
The Indonesian Commercial Court at the Central Jakarta District Court agreed with that analysis, siding with the Burden estate in its lawsuit against Rabbit Town. The tourist attraction on the island of West Java, in the city of Bandung, has 30 days to remove the infringing artwork and issue a public apology to the estate.

HK biz welcomes Singapore travel bubble relaunch

Card image cap

(MENAFN - Asia Times) Hong Kong's tourism and retail sectors are to be revitalized soon as a travel bubble scheme with Singapore will begin in late May while mainlanders may visit the territory without being quarantined.
The Hong Kong government announced on Monday that the long-awaited scheme with Singapore will start on May 26 at the earliest. Under the agreement, residents will be allowed to travel between the cities on designated flights without the need to quarantine.
Travelers are required to test negative for Covid-19 within 72 hours before they fly. They will also undergo another coronavirus test on arrival. However, Hong Kong participants will have to be fully vaccinated, except those under 16 or unsuitable for vaccination on medical grounds. Their counterparts in Singapore will be free from such requirement.

Why the Pandemic Will Actually Strengthen the Art Experience Economy—and the Old-Fashioned Gallery Business, Too

Massless Clouds Between Sculpture and Life (2020). Installation view of "Every Wall is a Door" Superblue Miami, 2021. Sound: teamLab. © teamLab, courtesy Pace Gallery.
A version of this story first appeared in the spring 2021 Artnet Intelligence Report, which you can download in full for free here.
The launch of Superblue could not have come at a worse time.
It was August 2020, in the heat of the summer lockdown, when the company announced its formation to a largely skeptical art world. It would pursue, it said, a twin mandate: to produce show-stopping immersive artworks for mass audiences of ticket buyers at a 50,000-square-foot “experiential art center” in Miami and take on experiential commissions for private and public clients at an ever-evolving array of off-site locations around the world. Both goals would be achieved in collaboration with A-list artists bridging the increasingly hazy borders between creative disciplines.

Bay Area Reporter :: Dutch Crunch: 'Immersive Van Gogh' arrives

Card image cap

Surely that's one of the reasons that the public has been gobbling up pricey tickets to
Immersive Van Gogh, the blockbuster touring exhibition in residence through September 6 at SVN West, the massive event space and former Honda dealership, at the intersection of Market Street and Van Ness Avenue.
Having attended a preview just prior to the show's official opening, I can confirm that the sensation of being completely surrounded by animated highlights of the Dutch master's oeuvre while buffeted by a thunderously amplified soundtrack is great fun and sometimes even a bit uplifting. That uplift is provided by the brushstrokes of Van Gogh —captured in all their textural glory in extraordinary high-resolution photography— and the wizardly technological choreography of Show One, the Toronto-based production company behind this touring spectacle.

La Costa couple debuts 'Love Tour' pop-up museum

Encinitas —
Over the past decade, Ann Delaney and Kyle Hill ran a wedding supply business where they created party favors, nuptial arches and three-dimensional photo backdrops and props for wedding guests’ Instagram shots.
Now, the La Costa couple has moved beyond the nuptial ceremonies themselves to focus on re-creating the look and feel of romance in their newly opened pop-up exhibit, “Museum of What? Love Tour.”
The 16,000-square-foot exhibition opened on Valentine’s Day evening in a former patio furniture store in the T.J. Maxx shopping center in Encinitas. Inside the building on Thursday morning, a bustling crew of mural artists and designers were putting the finishing touches on the project, which has nearly two dozen three-dimensional room stations and painted backdrops.
