In wake of Winnipeg lab scandal, scientists say Canada benefits from new, high-security pathogen lab

Canada will soon have a second laboratory capable of working with the most dangerous pathogens in the world, home to Canada’s Centre for Pandemic Research. It will be the only non-government Level 4 facility in the country, part of the University of Saskatchewan’s Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization.

'Wake-up call for Canada': Security experts say case of 2 fired scientists could point to espionage

China says it won't politicize scientific research in the case of two scientists fired from Canada's only Level 4 lab, amid an RCMP investigation, demands for details in Parliament, and concerns it could be a case of Chinese espionage.

Tories demanding PHAC release documents on viruses sent to Wuhan, firing of two scientists

OTTAWA --
The Conservatives are forcing members of Parliament to vote on whether to compel the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to turn over documents related to the shipping of viruses sent to the Wuhan Institute of Virology in 2019 and the subsequent firing of two scientists.
The party’s opposition day motion, sponsored by MP Michael Chong, seeks explanation on why Dr. Xiangguo Qiu and Dr. Keding Cheng were escorted out of Winnipeg’s National Microbiology Laboratory in July 2019 and terminated 18 months later by the agency.
The Conservatives have long questioned whether that event is linked to the fact that four months before their removal, Qiu had been responsible for a shipment of Ebola and Henipah viruses to China's Wuhan Institute of Virology.

We Will 'Get to Bottom of This': Genuis on Transfer of Deadly Viruses From Canada to Wuhan Lab

We Will ‘Get to Bottom of This’: MP Genuis on Transfer of Deadly Viruses From Canada to Wuhan Lab
Conservative MP Garnett Genuis says he is committed to getting to the bottom of the case regarding the transfer of deadly viruses from a lab in Canada to the Chinese military-affiliated Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).
Two Chinese scientists, Xiangguo Qiu and her husband Keding Cheng, and some of Qiu’s students from China, were escorted from the National Microbiology Laboratory (NML) and stripped of their security access on July 5, 2019.
The Winnipeg lab—Canada’s highest security Level 4 lab, works with some of the deadliest human and animal pathogens, such as Ebola.

In his first 10 days as president, Joe Biden visited wounded service members at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The visit was more than a somber return to the place where his son, Beau, died from a rare brain cancer in 2015. It was a sign to ailing veterans and advocacy groups that the president might deliver the care post-9/11 veterans have struggled for decades to get.
“Beau Biden almost certainly died of exposure, probably to a burn pit,” said Afghanistan veteran Mark Jackson, who works on behalf of veterans suffering rare diseases and ailments after being stationed at a contaminated secret base in Uzbekistan known as K2.

Malaysia needs biosecurity law during Covid-19 and beyond

TO date, there are countless people flouting the movement control (MCO) order, resulting in court hearings, imprisonment, and compounds.
A question hovering in my mind: are the MCO rules and regulations not strict enough, consequently they are freely ignored, just like typical Malaysian traffic offenders?
As explained by the legal practitioners, the MCO law is the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 with police legally entitled to enforce it under the Police Act 1967.
A fine of RM1,000 is imposed for breaching the former act, as advised by the Malaysian Bar to reduce congestion in and the possible spread of Covid-19 in prisons.
