Canada-U.S. Ties Will Remain Strong, No Matter What

With Inauguration Day just around the corner, it is important to remember that every new administration brings changes. The incoming U.S. president has expressed skepticism about several international trade deals, including NAFTA. That's worrying to many Canadians. A poll conducted last November found that 57% of Canadians think the pact has made their economy better off (vs. just 20% who say it is worse off).

Washington Senators Introduce Bill That Would Put Entire State Into Phase Two of the Reopening Plan Immediately

Shutterstock
With Inauguration Day happening in the other Washington, it’s understandable that legislative action in Olympia on Wednesday, January 20, may have flown under the radar. But state lawmakers introduced a bill that could have a direct impact on the restaurant scene in Seattle one that pushes to bypass part of Gov. Jay Inslee’s reopening plan.
Senate Bill 5114 seeks to reopen all businesses at 25 percent capacity immediately. Currently, the entire state is in phase one of the “Healthy Washington Roadmap to Recovery” plan, with most types of indoor dining banned, among other activities. But each of eight regions in Washington can advance to phase two if the area meets all four of the following metrics: there must be a 10 percent decrease in COVID cases over the previous 14 days; a 10 percent decrease in hospital admission rates; ICU occupancy below 90 percent; and overall COVID test positivity below 10 percent. If passed, the bill would basically bypass those conditions and skip right to phase two. And it would allow the legislature to format additional phases of re-opening, rather than leave it all up to Inslee, essentially curbing his emergency powers.

Jason Whitlock on the Fox News Plantation Comparing BLM to the KKK (Watch)

With Inauguration Day coverage broadcast on nearly every channel on Wednesday, Black journalist
Jason Whitlock was over on Fox News comparing Black Lives Matter to the Ku Klux Klan, saying BLM is the modern day “enforcement arm” of the Democratic Party.
This tomfoolery went down on
Tucker Carlson’s show. Whitlock was saying that the Dems had two approaches to civil rights – a power-based stance against racism, and a faith-based stance, championed by
Dr. Martin Luther King.
Carlson responded: “You mentioned the BLM movement that really kind of took over a lot of the country, funded by our most powerful corporations over the summer. That is a political movement. Put it in context for us. What would you compare that to?”

Washington County Dem. Chair Comments on Insurrection, Further Threats

With Inauguration Day half a week away, Washington, D.C. and states across the country are preparing for potential armed protests following the January 6th attack from Trump supporters on the nation’s capitol.
Washington County Democratic Chair Kimberly Davis says she was astonished and disgusted at the “abhorrent behavior” that was shown during that event which resulted in five deaths. Davis mentions she doesn’t believe the majority of the protestors at the capitol on January 6th were involved in such behavior, and she doesn’t want people to paint all Trump supporters as maliciously intended. Davis believes that President Donald Trump should be removed from office as soon as possible, and if he is not held accountable for his actions then that could set a bad precedent for future leaders, “The people have spoken, I mean we impeached him already basically. We didn’t vote him back into office, he’s a one-term president, he lost the House, lost the Senate, and I mean that’s a pretty big statement made by the American people. So one way or another he’s out of there, but I think the sooner the better just to ensure the safety of Americans. I mean from what I see online it doesn’t seem like this is the end of it, I feel like there are more demonstrations of this nature in the works.”

US government appeals lower court ruling to enjoin TikTok restrictions - JURIST - News

December 29, 2020 05:38:42 pm
The United States government on Monday appealed a federal judge’s order that blocked the Commerce Department from imposing restrictions on Chinese-owned short video-sharing app TikTok that would have effectively barred its use in the US.
On December 7, United States District Court Judge Carl Nichols of the DC Circuit granted an injunction, enjoining the Secretary of Commerce from prohibiting transactions between TikTok and U.S. citizens.
The appeal will continue a battle that began when President Donald Trump signed an August 2020 Executive Order, which identified the Chinese application as a potential threat to national security, foreign policy, and the United States economy.

That s the message from the congressional committee organizing inauguration ceremonies for President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
A day after Biden s own organizing committee announced that the swearing-in would take place on Jan. 20 outside the Capitol Building, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies announced that permitted attendance at the event will be drastically reduced due to COVID-19 precautions.
