Closer than ever | Association for Progressive Communications

Why are people's relationships important in online work?
A network is only as strong as the people that are part of it. Working for social change requires passion and commitment to a cause. This becomes even more crucial if the work we do is mostly online, because the support of our co-workers is distant and it is easy to lose motivation or the sense of urgency when we interact through a phone, pad, tablet or computer screen instead of face to face.
In this sense, it is important for your organisation to make explicit what you believe in and build common ground among the people in your network, which includes your shared ideas, practices and politics. This is very helpful when new people come into your organisation, so that they can know what everyone expects from them. It can also be a criterion when you build new relationships and collaborate with other people and organisations.

APC at the Stockholm Internet Forum | Association for Progressive Communications

5 May 2021
The Stockholm Internet Forum (SIF) is an international space for discussion of internet-related issues hosted by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), which takes place every two years in Stockholm.
This year, the event will take place fully online between 10 and 12 May, preceded by the activities happening at the Pre-SIF on 7 May 2021, under the theme “Mobilising for Digital Resilience – a free, open, and secure internet in the shifting landscapes of the pandemic”.
SIF represents a key opportunity for advocacy and networking, as well as the chance to showcase APC’s ongoing work on access, human rights, governance, a feminist internet and environmental sustainability.

Continuing the conversation: Lessons from APC's subgranting experience | Association for Progressive Communications

APC
Subgranting – when a donor allocates a substantial amount of money to a credible organisation for further disbursement to other organisations – is becoming more common as a strategy by large donors to make sure that funding is reaching the right people. It reduces the administrative burden for donors on working individually with organisations on relatively small projects, and the uncertainty they might feel about worthy or convincing projects or organisations to support. Organisations like APC serve as intermediaries to these funds – they are strategically situated to provide the kinds of guarantees needed by donors that their money will be disbursed well.
