If the US and New Zealand are willing to resettle the Biloela family then they are obviously refugees and not a threat to anyone (“Not coming home: Tamil family likely to be resettled overseas”, June 9). The Australian government should stop this intransigence and act with the compassion people expect of it.
Melanie Vertoudakis, Camperdown
Could this government inflict any more pain on the Biloela family? Yes. The vengeance of this government towards this sick three-year-old child and her family knows no bounds.

I now feel a total sense of hopelessness and despair (“Net zero action: Cabinet shuns climate laws”, February 10). All sense of urgency to ensure the safety of future generations and biodiversity on this planet is being completely ignored and used as
a political plaything. What can we possibly do, as citizens of this country, to convey this utter despair to our supposed leaders? Anything?
Judy Hungerford, North Curl Curl
Just about every institution – including state governments, business, unions and farming groups – want net zero emissions by 2050 to be legislated. But the Coalition federal government still demurs. Scott Morrison is fearful that the same fate is in store for him that was meted out to Turnbull.

If Britain, America, Canada, Israel, Chile, Belgium, Argentina and many other countries are already rolling out vaccines for COVID-19, why is Australia sitting back and waiting (‘‘New entrant in vaccination race’’, January 1)? When are we going to see some proactive approaches implemented by our national cabinet and scrap leaving it all to individual state governments to deal with? It’s more than time that state governments either introduced vaccinations themselves or utilised the national cabinet to get the ball rolling. Other parts of the world will be vaccinated while Australia is still dithering. We want vaccines in Australia and we want them now.
