Enid senior elected governor at this year's virtual-only Oklahoma Girls State

Jun. 12—An incoming Enid High School senior with a passion for politics was elected to the highest office of this year's Oklahoma Girls State last week. Kadee Jo Ransom won three elections during the weeklong, all-virtual session to be named governor of 2021 Oklahoma Girls State. After finding out she won the final election last Thursday, Kadee Jo said she held in her excitement until she ...

Big Oil Isn't Going Anywhere, So Ignore It at Your Own Peril

Big Oil isn't going anywhere, so ignore it at your own peril, opines Jim Collins, who writes that Exxon Mobil continues to move forward with oil discoveries outside the U.S. as much of the world remains caught in an energy poverty trap....XOM

The Wheels Are Coming Off Tesla

The Wheels Are Coming Off Tesla
TSLA's myriad quality problems in China have put the bloom off the rose there.
Stocks quotes in this article:
TSLA
After today's brutal miss on the jobs number -- 559,000 actual vs. a 671,000 estimate was a 16.7% miss -- the normal feedback loop commenced. Economy not that hot = interest rates down (the yield on the 10-year UST has ticked down today to 1.58%) = Nasdaq up. This has been the state of affairs in 2021. Is what it is. I don't fight it, I just use these mindless bounces to reset my short positions.
Without entering into a long-winded diatribe about Elon Musk, Bitcoin, self-driving, etc., let me just note one key point that has become increasingly apparent to those of us who actually analyze fundamentals this week: the wheels are coming off Tesla (TSLA) . That is true both literally - Tesla has announced two separate recalls this week, the first covering 5,974 Models 3/Y in the U.S. and 734 in China over potentially loose brake caliper bolts and the second covering 7,696 3/Ys in the U.S. owing to potentially loose seatbelt fastener connections - and figuratively.

Back From the Dead: The Energy and Auto Sectors

Back From the Dead: The Energy and Auto Sectors
Companies that procure real, accounting gimmick-free, cash flow are indeed hard to kill and their stocks will always be easy to own.

"Hard to Kill." I surprised myself by choosing a Steven Seagal film title for this column's tagline. Much like Seagal's epically heroic character, Mason Storm, however, there are companies - and stocks - in this market that have been left for dead that are in the process of re-animation.
Energy is one such sector. As of this writing, front-month oil futures are quoted with Brent at $71.40/barrel and West Texas Intermediate at $68.93/barrel. There is no oil producing company in the world that is not grossly profitable at that level of commodity pricing. As lockdowns are lifted and governments continue to unwisely limit production - as with the Biden Administration's decision to cease handing out permits for drilling on U.S. federal land and effectively close Alaska's ANWR to development drilling - demand is going to grow. When demand rises faster than supply... yes, you know the rest. Prices rise.

As Exxon Mobil (XOM) shares slide again today, albeit only fractionally, one has to wonder what "activist" hedge fund Engine No. 1 thinks it has accomplished. The value of its "massive" 0.02% stake in XOM has declined since it won election of two of its slate of candidates to Exxon's 12-member Board. One Engine No. 1 candidate lost and the third seat is still apparently too close to call. With self-styled activist Jeff Ubben already on Exxon's board, that means that, at most, the "woke" contingent on Exxon's Board of Directors is four out of 12 seats. My guess is that it actually ends up being 3 out of 12 when the proxy solicitation firm is finished reporting results next week.
