Ahead of the UN's next Biodiversity Conference in China in October, conservationists reported "major progress" — although incomplete — in rescuing the world's shrinking biodiversity over the past decade by establishing conservation areas on land and at sea.
Land targets exceeded, oceanic ones missed but soon to be met
That Target 11 urged the world to "protect and integrate" at least 17% of its terrestrial and inland waters and 10% of its coastal and marine areas through effective governance and safeguarding ecological systems.

We Photograph the Places We Love the Most Best

Standing at the edge of Tunnel View in Yosemite National Park I didn’t feel an immediate connection with the iconic tableau. It wasn’t that the scene, El Capitan, Bridalveil Falls, and Half Dome, wasn’t spectacular, as it was. It is among the most captivating scenes in the world. In spite of the beauty, my camera remained in its bag. I couldn’t conceive of a shot that felt personally connected to the scene. Instead, I only saw vignettes of Ansel Adams' deep love for the place.
That moment of stumped ecstasy, in which I was visually in awe, but couldn’t conceive of a photograph, provided just the hint of insight needed to explore a deeper lesson. Eight months into a multi-year photography road trip, I was beginning to perceive a pattern at play, a pattern that operated with the predictable highs and lows of the gas gauge. In periods of travel, when the luxury of time was present, to sit, observe, and engage with a singular landscape for more than a few days — ideally for a couple of weeks — I became settled and connected to the more intimate features of the landscape. For example, while spending three months this winter on the Oregon Coast, I became attuned to the landscape features (sea stacks, tide pools, and beaches) and the rhythm of the ocean, and given enough time, learned how I wanted to photograph them. When, conversely, I rushed, the results were crushing. A couple of nights in the Badlands of South Dakota, the next night in the Black Hills, followed by a quick jaunt through the Wind River Range, Tetons, and Yellowstone in Wyoming left me feeling exasperated and ultimately, photographically wanting. Traveling rapidly, I failed to capture more than iPhone documentation shots.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Clean energy groups, in public comments submitted on March 13, are calling on the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to halt its plans for a massive build-out of gas-fired power plants that are inconsistent with President Biden’s call for net zero emissions in the power sector by 2035. The Southern Environmental Law Center on behalf of Sierra Club, Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, and Energy Alabama, argue that new gas is costly, adds significant risk to customers and that TVA failed to analyze any alternatives such as energy efficiency or renewable energy should it need new capacity.

All my pieces are hand-painted in acrylic on miniature 4"x4" (10x10cm) canvas board. I recreate the simple beauty and nostalgia of moments in everyday life, particularly sunsets or sometimes dreamlike night skies, as well as trips across my local moorland, recreated from photos I have taken over the years. I like being able to find, capture, and create beauty in landscapes that wouldn't stereotypically be considered picturesque: driving along a motorway, the outskirts of a city, the street of a quiet neighborhood, the roof of a carpark, the headlights of traffic... we can find the beauty in anything if we choose to see it.
