Credit Lane Regional Air Protection Agency Lane Regional Air Protection Agency spokesperson Travis Knudsen said the majority of Lane County won’t be affected by wildfire smoke. “For those who are seeing the air quality being degraded it will vary and short throughout the day it will shift in a diurnal pattern the morning portions in the day in the Oakridge region specifically will be when air quality is at its best,” he said. Knudsen said air quality will degrade as the day goes on, and may go from moderate to very unhealthy on the air quality index. He advises checking LRAPA.org for possible changes, and take precautions when necessary.

An air quality advisory has been issued Monday by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality for eastern Lane County as a result of smoke from the Middle Fork Complex fires burning in areas around Oakridge. The areas most impacted by smoke, rising to the "unhealthy" level of air quality, are around Oakridge and Westfir, according to Travis Knudsen, a public affairs manager for the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency. Knudsen said while Eugene and Springfield are still at "good" air quality, the air quality drops to "moderate" reaching areas east of Springfield in places such as Dexter Lake and Vida.

Firefighters are responding to nine small lightning-ignited wildfires Thursday night near Oakridge. The cluster of fires have been dubbed the Middle Fork Complex, according to Willamette National Forest. A type 2 fire crew and aviation resources have been ordered in an effort to put the blazes out, forest officials said late Thursday. The fires range in sizes from less than an acre to 10 acres. The incidents are in the Fall Creek, Hills Creek Reservoir and north of Huckleberry areas near Oakridge. "Two incidents are close to private lands and are our current priorities," the national forest said. Around 100 lightning strikes hit the Cascade Crest east of Eugene on Monday. Fire crews responded to 17 small fires following that lightning event, Willamette National Forest said previously. It's unclear if the Middle Fork Complex is part of that batch of fires.
