TOKYO 2020 'Japan's Heat will Impair Olympic Athletes' Performances'

The impact of climate change will likely lead to “impaired” performances at the Tokyo Olympics, according to a report backed by leading athletes.
In the report, titled Rings of Fire, it is argued that summer heatwaves in Tokyo during the past three years indicate that conditions will be tough.
Concerns over heat have caused the marathon to be moved from Tokyo.
Professor Mike Tipton said he expects Tokyo to be the most “thermally stressful Olympics” of recent times.
The University of Portsmouth professor helped to produce the report, which was backed by athletes, the British Association for Sustainability in Sport (Basis) and scientists from the Priestley International Centre for Climate at Leeds University.

Six people are dead in a suspected North Texas murder-suicide. Allen police say two brothers made a suicide pact, killed four other family members, and then themselves. Their bodies were discovered early this morning after a family friend called police. No identities were released, but officers say the victims include the brothers' parents, sister, and their grandmother.

Enthusiasts report feeling alive and socially connected after a year feeling dull and isolated.
The practice can be dangerous, and benefits may be tied to other factors, like being in nature.
Jake Panasevich stood on his open-air porch wearing nothing but boxer briefs in less than 10-degree weather.
The yoga instructor, who's spent the pandemic with his dog in a Cayuga, New York, family lake house, called it "cold therapy." His neighbors, he presumes, called him a loon.

Refining our Covid-19 SOPs for the public — Amar-Singh HSS | What You Think

FEBRUARY 3 — We are all in the long-haul stretch of the Covid-19 endless marathon and we see fatigue and hopelessness setting in as repeated movement control orders (MCOs) and tighter restrictions are imposed. We need to be science based with our daily SOPs, rather than resort to harsh measures. Heftier fines, extended MCOs, increased public blaming are counterproductive and also harmful to the poor and those that have lost their livelihood. We have to walk this fine balance between harm from Covid-19 and destroying lives from tight SOPs that limit employment.
