Webster B. “Dan” Todd Jr. passed away on June 3, 2021 at his home in Bernardsville, New Jersey.
He was born Dec. 1, 1938 to Webster B. Todd and Eleanor S. Todd of Oldwick, New Jersey. Dan graduated from Millbrook School and Princeton University 1961 with a BA in Geology.
Dan was a Renaissance Man, having lived a full life. He was an avid outdoorsman, licensed fishing guide, pilot, marine captain, golfer, hockey player and coach, racecar driver, a musician, rancher, and was involved in a number of real estate business endeavors. Dan’s political involvement spanned many decades. In addition to his turn in the New Jersey State Assembly, he worked on numerous campaigns both presidential and statewide. ....

WASHINGTON Harry M. Reid s phone has been ringing a lot lately, with calls from interest groups, friends and potential candidates themselves, all craving one thing: an ambassadorship. The former Senate majority leader then picks up the phone and dials Steve Ricchetti, one of President Joe Biden s top advisers, who for months has been fielding requests for plum positions.
There s very few political jobs that bring the dignity of being an ambassador for the United States to a country. It s a very prestigious position, Reid said. But he suggested the would-be envoys shouldn t hold their breath: I think with the impeachment going on and trying to get the Cabinet filled, I think people should be understanding that things are more important than the ambassadorship right now with the president. ....

New US Covid infections for the week ending January 16th were 8.5% below those of the week ending January 9th, so it appears that the incidence of new cases mat have peaked and is turning down, at least for the time being. One caveat to that, though, is that we don t know how many of the prior week s cases were from reports that had been delayed over the holidays. For a check on that, we can compare new cases from the week ending January 16th to those from the week ending December 19t ....

Administration official apparently leads series of papers casting doubt on climate change

A Trump administration apparently led a group of researchers in writing papers casting doubt on the scientific evidence for climate change. 
David Legates, an administration official with a history of questioning humans’ influence on global warming, appears to have written an introduction to a series of papers aimed at casting doubt on the scientific consensus that climate change is occurring and caused by human activity. 
Roy Spencer, a climate-change skeptic research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, said on his website that Legates asked him and others to write “brochures that supported the general view that there is no climate crisis or climate emergency.” ....
