first, let's talk about libya, and look at who materialized in libya today and wait until you hear what he said. here he is, senator john mccain saying that we need to be in deeper. that's right. the u.s. should be more deeply involved in the war there against moammar gadhafi. take a listen. >> i believe that air power when sufficiently and appropriately used can affect the situation on the battlefield dramatically, and i believe that we should be much more involved and engaged in the air campaign, than we have been. >> cnn's reza siayah there in benghazi. what did you see? >> well, the visit of senator mccain was not publicized, but once he arrived, many were pleased. don't be surprised to see many american flags here in benghazi, because senator mccain came to say what they wanted to hear. today, he visited with the opposition officials and visited freedom square, the heart of the uprising in libya and praised the uprising, and he essentially said that he was there to see what was needed there, and go back to talk to the obama administration and push for help. we had a chance to talk to him, and here is a sense of what he said. >> reporter: senator, the u.s. has been criticizeded for recent years of getting involved in operations and not establishing a clear end game in achieving it. i want you specific in what end game you envision? >> the end game that i envision is a departure of moammar gadhafi. and the libyan people being able to set up a government by themselves with the assistance primarily of the europeans, but also the united states of america. libya is closer to europe, and the europeans have greater ties to libya and greater interests. >> reporter: you say a departure of colonel gadhafi and i want to press you and getting more specific on that, and what does this look like? is that the rebel fighters raiding the south, and him giving up? >> well, one of three things. either he joins chavez in we venezuela or he goes to court and joins hitler and stalin. >> reporter: he is the type of man who says i give up? >> well, it is difficult. it is certainly more unlikely today since he seems to at least for the time being fought the liberation forces to a standstill, to a stalemate. >> so even when we pressed senator mccain, he was not clear what he envisioned as the end game being, but he said that the u.s. should be committed to this military intervention, and again, he believes that the obama administration should do more. brooke. >> those are great questions that you tried to press him on and his interesting choice to send them to the hague to the international court. and let me ask you, because we may be seeing more american flags there in libya, but the thing was turned over to nato and we said, we will help you, but this is your deal, and the question is do the rebels that you spoke with believe they can topple gadhafi, themselves, without more active u.s. involvement, and reza keeping in mind that the u.s. has now promised $25 million in aid and now from secretary gates we are hearing that we will be sending in armed drones. >> yeah, brooke. i think that beyond what the oppositions and the rebels are saying, all you have to do is to look at the facts on the battlefield, and it is clear that at this point the rebel forces don't have the kancapabiy and the capacity to take on a professional army like the gadhafi army, because they are outmatched and outgun and still calling everyday for heavier weapons. this week, of course, washington coming out with the announcement that they are going to be using unmanned predator drones. that could help in places of misrata where the regime is using tactics of placing weaponry in heavily-populated area. will that shift things and give power to the rebels on the battlefield? senator mccain said there are no indications or guarantees that could be a game-changer, but he said they will be effective. so, as far as right now is earn -- is concerned, and the evidence on the battlefield, this is an uphill battle for the rebel forces. >> we know for senator mccain vouched for the rebel forces and calling them heroes, and saying they are not al qaeda, and you have been there in the rebel stronghold of benghazi, and how are the rebel groups unfolding and are you seeing democracy at all take hold? >> well, look,en in o even in tl where we are staying, there are diplomatic discussions being held, but the test is when and if the gadhafi regime is toppled and when and if they have an opportunity to submit a constitution and have elections and have rivalries vying for power and that has not happened yet. at this point, the members of the opposition, the purpose is the mission, and they are aligned, and that is the toppling of colonel gadhafi, so now that the mission is easy, agreeing is easy. will it be this easy once the gadhafi regime is done and they have to go through the political process, the difficulty and the challenges of democracy, that remains to be seen. >> and how in the world gadhafi would go. reza, thank you for reporting from benghazi. and senator mccain saying we need to get in deep, and let's go to the pentagon to barbara starr. you know, we know that senator mccain is over there saying we need to send in the big war hogs and the attack planes, so is there any inclination of the pentagon to go back in again? >> well, think of it as this kind of military strategy, brooke, sorry, we are having a little technical problem in my ear there, but think of it as a military problem. what do you do with air power? you can only do so much. even if you send in the ac-130s and send in the other aircraft, air power, nato says, will not solve the problem. the drones, the predator drones, that i will do la-- they will d little bit more, but you are talking about forces on the ground, gadhafi forces dug in, and using camouflage to disguise themselves and mixing in with the population forces and making it uf the tough to come after tm the air, so even if the aircraft gets called back in, they go into the cities where the forces are mixed together, and so how do you get bat that problem without inadvertently killing civilians. that is the challenge of nato right now on the air power question. >> and the word stalemate that the senator used today, and is there concern at the pentagon, barbara, or perhaps within the administration that this thing would drag on and if it does, a, we will look like we are sitting on the sidelines or possibly, b, sucked back in? >>le wiell, those are the choices, and stalemate is word called around here. and reza was right, what do you do to change the dynamic on the ground? how do you make the rebels better able to shift into a mode of success without the training, the weapons, the organization and the communications? can they really be changing the game themselves by all accounts they cannot. air power, again, does not solve it, so that the pressure will grow on nato and the obama administration perhaps as there is more and more tragedy on the civilians in libya to do something about it, but the administration right now, the white house, the pentagon, very adamant, no u.s. boots on the ground, and right now, they say they will stick to that, brooke. >> very clearly stick to that. barbara starr at the pentagon. thank you, barbara. and now, new photos released by the fbi. this is the guy. this is the man they are calling a possible suspect in wednesday's attempted mall bombing in colorado. we will take you live to littleton with new details today on this. also, we are getting new information about the kindergarten, and remember the story a couple of days ago who brought a gun to school, and the gun goes off and injures three students. well, guess what, the gun might not have just dropped to the cafeteria floor afterall. more on that next. in 2011, at&, building up our wireless network all across america. we're adding new cell sites... increasing network capacity... and making a substantial investment to improve your wireless network experience. from a single phone call to the most advanced data download, we're covering more people in more places than ever before in an effort to give you the best network possible. at&t. rethink possible. >> well, i talked to john feal earlier and he says it is a done deal and it has passed. it was a hurdle to get it passed and the thing he is asking for now is a copy of what the letter looks like, and in it, it says that it mentions the word terrorist watch list and he is saying at the very list what he is asking is that lawmakers will help him to change the wording and at the very least get it to changed to department of homeland security but at the very least take terrorist out of it. >> and let's ask first responder james rooider w er wrider who h the letter, but heard the story. how does this sit for you? >> blew my mind. no reason or justification or logic behind it. >> you were at the ground zero the days and weeks and months after 9/11 and let me throw it at you, because this is what some are saying, is it within the realm of possibility that terrorists could have been there as well as observers? >> as a police officer, you are trained that the perp could be standing in front of you, and yes, it is possible, but logical that he is here looking f g foi assistance from the government because he ran into the fire while everybody else ran out? it does not make sense. >> and if you have nothing to hide, this is no big deal, what do you think? >> well, it is not a safeguard and it is cliff stearns doing whatever he can do in his little mind to figure out it is important, but he needs to apologize no the first responders and the very brave people who responded in there on that day and let them know that this is about patriotism and not politics. what his logic is makes no sense. it is queer and illogical and inappropriate. to use terrorism as a word associated with the responders. >> i know that you know mr. feal and you are part of the foundation and you heard mary say that as part of the letter if they could change the wording and instead of saying comparing or checking you guys against the terrorist watch list you could change the language, what would you like to change? because this is a done deal for all intents and purposes it sounds like. >> right. it is a done deal, but it is broken. that is typical of our government sometimes. you don't want to watch it being made, and this is one of the examples, but terrorism needs to be out there, and we understand it is going to be in there and we also understand that when the responders get it, they are dealing with post-traumatic stress and other issues and they can't pay the mortgage because they are taking 40 pills a day, and paying for the medication, this could be another stress on their lives and because of people like cliff stearns and others like him. >> people can point the fingers to cliff stearns, but the amendment sailed through whatever side of the political aisle you are on, and it didn't face opposition from the democrats, and he is obviously a republican. i do want to ask you in talking to the colleagues, is it majority of folks opposed to this or minor i the ities say, is okay. how does that shake out among your friends? >> good. >> we have a couple of items that i'm going to draw your attention to on our ticker now. one of them is about an increasing pessimism in the country just this month. there have been four national polls taken that show that americans seem to be more and more worried about the direction that the country is taking. the latest from the new york times in cbs news shows that 70% of americans polled said they believe the country is on the wrong track. that is a phenomenal number. it's 12 points up from february which leads some people to believe that gas prices have added to the economic angst of the country. i can tell you that pollsters pay a lot of attention to right direction and wrong attention. the general feel of the public is very influential. it appears at this point that president obama, certainly while paying for some of this, his approval rating ranks a lot higher than the members of congress do. but nonetheless, 70% of the country thinking that it is headed in the wrong direction. shows there is a lot of grump peaness and pessimism about the country. john ensign, he is resigning as of may. had he been embroiled in a sex scandal. he admitted to having an affair with someone on his staff and that his parents gave money to his staffer and her husband and their family. there was an ongoing ethics committee investigation. ensign said in his fairly lengthy press release about this that he just didn't want to subject his family to this any longer. even though he had been -- the case itself does not appear to being investigated outside of the fbi or justice department or anything like that. what is good news for the republicans in this, a, they take a possible very bad ethics committee report off the table because they just say he's already gone and that's his individual problem. and, b., there's a republican governor in nevada. he can appoint a republican and put him -- install him in that senate seat and give him a leg up for 2012 for that senate seat. so they didn't want to lose that one. in some ways the republican party certainly gained by getting this off its tables, brooke. >> we'll look a little more into senator ensign leading with joe johns later in the hour. we have another political update in half an hour. but for now, watch this. it's not entirely clear who the rebels are in libya. i'm brooke baldwin. the news is now. a shocking revelation, government forces in bahrain accused of targeting hospitals. attacking doctors, patients, and unarmed civilians. amber li amber lyon is with me live. a high schooler pulls off a fake pregnancy. who knew the secret. i sit down with the stars of bridesmaid. plus, the best part of coming home. hello, once again. i'm brooke baldwin. a major development out of colorado i want to pass along. someone tried to unleash terror. take a good, long look at these photos. the fbi is trying to hunt down this man. he's now no longer a person of interest. he's considered a suspect with two days after a suspect left a pipe bomb in the mall. it was discovered 12 years to the day of those shootings. we have a reporter live on the ground in littleton. we'll bring you that information coming up. first, this. big, big news here out of libya today. the unexpected arrival of -- there he is, senator john mccain. now, mccain is there. he's saying the united states needs to get more deeply involved militarily than it is right now. reza caught up with the senator and this is what he had to say. >> senator, the u.s. has been criticized in recent years. getting involved in operations and not establishing a clear end game and achieving it, i want you to be specific. in what end game you envision? >> end game that i envision is a departure of moammar gadhafi and the lib yan people being able to set up a government by themselves with the assistance primarily of the europeans but also the united states of america. the europeans have greater ties to libya and greater interest. >> you say the departure of colonel gadhafi, what does that look like? is this the rebel raiding his house? is he saying, i give up? >> that means one of three things. either he joins hugo chavez and goes international criminal court which is my preference or he joins hitler and stalin. >> but based on what you know about him, is he the kind of man where he says, i give up? >> i think it would be very difficult and certainly more unlikely today since he seems to at least for the time being fought the liberation forces to a standstill. so a stalemate. >> again, that was the senator speaking today in benghazi. the senator is also saying that the u.s. needs to get in more deeply to break the stalemate. i want to bring in barbara starr live at the pentagon. we're now in deeper in libya than we were at the start of the week. it was $25 million in aid and that was yesterday and now announcing that we're sending in the unmanned drones. are the drones, barbara, seen as a game changer, something that could break both the pentagon and senator mccain's word, a stalemate? is it possible? >> well, that's really interesting, brooke, because stalemate is the word that you're hearing on all sides now. stalemate between the opposition and the gadhafi forces, stalemate and would they really change the game on the ground? just look at the last 48 hours and i think it's an example of how tough it will be. the predators have already flown but not fired any of their weapons because the weather is too bad. poor conditions, they can't see any targets to fire at. we've been talking for the last couple of days about the other part of this. an escalation in nato air strikes. but, look, that hasn't materialized yet either. i've talked to a nato official who says the frustration is significant. that a number of targets that they thought they were going to be able to go after have either moved or dug in or gadhafi is disguising them. how is he disguising them? his forces are now heavily mixed in with civilian populations in the cities and the official says it's totally unacceptable for nato to go into the cities right now from the air because they can't distinguish between civilian and military population, civilian and military targets. that's why you have a stalemate. the last 48 hours, one of the biggest examples of it. so even with more aid to the rebels, the 25 million, even with the predators, hard to see what will change that situation on the ground, brooke. >> but in the last 48 hours, we've been hearing, no boots on the ground, no boots on the ground but mccain is talking about sending in warplanes are they ruling that out completely? >> no, not completely. they will use them but, again, we're talking about the challenges. you can't really solve it with air power because you can't always see the targets. you can't distinct wish between civilian and military and once again yesterday, defense secretary robert gates ruled out troops on the ground. he said that the u.s. is busy enough in afghanistan and iraq, still hoping in japan and it's going to have to be, he says, the lib yan people that get moammar gadhafi out of the office. >> thank you so much. >> sure. let's go. a florida man is dead after being tased by police officers near universal park. he was causing some sort of a disturbance and became violent when two off-duty officers tried to arrest him. >> i tried to calm him down and at one point he grabbed the officers. they ended up tussling with him. >> police say they tasered the man before they handcuffed him. the man became unresponsive while on the ground and was pronounced dead at the hospital. hosni mubarak is expected to remain in custody for another 15 days. the general prosecutor's office sent a team to question mubarak today. he's accused of being responsible for hundreds of protesters back in january during the revolution that toppled him from power. the ailing ex-president is at a hospital and could be moved to prison next week if he's well enough. to washington state. drama plays out on the water. if you look very closely, the driver hops out of there, manages to escape and pops into the water. she swam to shore. she's doing fine. she's lucky the motor didn't explode because it would have erupted right in her direction. over to indiana, the hoosiers state where two lucky friends are millionaires after hitting a $227 million powerball jackpot. >> i always check in the mornings because if i hit it i wouldn't go to work. >> nice. the men had been pooling their money for a couple of years before they hit the jackpot. note to self, go in with friends. a nice surprise from kid rock to do nate cash to the school's music program and had a little kid rock advice. >> if you surround yourself with good people, you go far. if you start hanging out with knuckle heads, you'll be in the knuckle head section for the rest of your life. on to an even better surprise. nothing quite like it. a soldier surprising his daughter for easter in the middle of her high school there in florida. they had not seen each other since january. he's only back from afghanistan for a short visit. >> i feel relieved that he's okay. and i missed him a lot. >> it's like every letter i write her, we e-mail back and forth, it's always, you're my whole world. big hug, big kisses. >> i'm really happy he's home and i love you daddy, i've missed you. >> i love you, too. >> awesome, awesome stuff. from one high school to another, a 17-year-old girl manages to pull off quite a stunt. she tricks people into thinking she's pregnant. not just for one month, two month, three months, for six months. we're going to hear from the girl about why she did it, who else was in on this thing. wait until you hear how she revealed the truth to her high school. plus, police could not crack a murder case. no answers for more than four years and then one investigator makes a shocking discovery. flip through pictures of gang members, find out how this tattoo on this guy's chest changed everything. that is next. building up our wireless network all across america. we're adding new cell sites... increasing network capacity... and making a substantial investment to improve your wireless network experience. from a single phone call to the most advanced data download, we're covering more people in more places than ever before in an effort to give you the best network possible. at&t. rethink possible. to say that this story caught our attention is a bit of an understatement. a girl fakes a pregnancy for a social experiment. here is this story. >> it was bound to happen any way and i knew she was going to get pregnant. >> rampant rumors grew as big as her belly. >> she just ruined her life. >> 17 and pregnant. >> she did a lot of crying. >> is no fun for this top finish high school. >> when she said pregnant, i was like, what? >> they say that they are not attacking doctors and patients. >> they say they are not? >> they are not doing it. they haven't denied arresting more than 30 doctors but they are not beating them and say the reason they have an intense military presence at the hospital is because they blame protesters for taking over the hospital during the heat of the unrest. but one thing is for sure, brooke, there are 30 doctors, right now, their families do not know where they are. they were violently arrested by security forces and one of these doctors was arrested during the middle of performing a surgery. his family has not heard from him since. >> it's hard to wrap your head around these reports. >> it is. >> and grave breaches in international law. >> they say that they are violating the principle of medical and international laws and calling on the u.n. and u.s. to push for an investigation. they say that even if you are in a war zone, doctors and patients should be safeguarded and that that is not happening. they documented one case where about a dozen patients were drug by security forces, phr says, out of their beds, up to the sixth floor of this main hospital in town and tortured and then forced to confess to things that phr says they didn't do. >> so this is a report, just out today, so maybe it's too early. but has the state department, has the u.n. responded whatsoever?
