>> jon: dana marie mcnichol, thanks. the two-state solution then remains the best path we believe toward a durable peace. when this conflict ends, hamas cannot control gaza. and israel must be secure. >> jon: vice president kamala harris in dubai making those comments at the world climate conference. harris added quote the palestinians have a right to dignity and self-determination, as israel and hamas war resumed following a seven-day cease-fire. joining us now idf spokesperson major. you heard the remarks of vice president harris. your first thoughts? >> well, what i hear, jon, is israel must be secure. that's the -- i guess part of that statement that speaks to me, and the other 10 million people living in israel because as we know, we have an entire section of our country that borders gaza. gaza with hamas in it are declaring they will commit october 7th attacks again and again and again. they also have 139 of our hostages, including men, women, and still babies. so in order for israel to be secure, there's only one answer. it is totally to destroy hamas, and i think when hamas are watching these remarks, we have to be very careful that we don't play into their hands. if they hear that we're saying this area's off grounds for israel to take care of, that's the first place hamas is going to go to hide. i think the international community have got to call on hamas, come out in the open, face israel, leave your civilians out of the way. face just like you faced our civilians that couldn't defend themselves. face us on the battlefield, and we will see where that goes. >> jon: i found it curious that the vice president suggested that there should be no occupation of gaza. the israeli occupation of gaza ended in, what, 2006, and the thank you that you received was this horrible invasion on october 7th. >> absolutely. i was there when we left gaza. i saw my friends and family being taken out of gaza. and i remember looking up at the sky as the last jewish people left gaza, 17, 18 years ago, and those bombs started falling on israel, the rockets. at the time it was so early, we said why would they do this? they just got what they wanted. it became clear and of course it became super clear on october 7th that hamas, it is not about having israelis in gaza or not, it is about destroying israelis, destroying the state, and destroying the jewish people. we are all aware of that in israel today. wherever hamas is, we are going to find hamas and eliminate them while trying our best to protect and not injure the civilian population in gaza. it is not easy. that's our job. that's what we have to do in order to survive here. >> jon: more than half of the hostages who were originally taken back in october are still in hamas captivity, despite the releases over the last week or so. what -- how are you feeling about the chances of recovering those hostages? >> well, look, the truce agreement broke down when hamas began firing rockets at israel. that was obviously their sign that they wanted no more of the truce and did not want to return our people to gaza. i can tell you that from our perspective, hamas will only give up israeli hostages if they feel they have no choice. for them, these people, these men, women, and babies are not humans. they are simply bargaining chips. if we continue militarily to press hamas to the wall, and they feel that existentially that they are about to be eliminated, that's when we have a chance of getting our hostages back. the military campaign goes together with releasing the hostages. we're fully dedicated right now, the state of israel, the idf soldiers, who are families of israel, to eliminating hamas and do our best to bring our people home. >> major of the idf, thank you. >> thank you. coming up, bide bidenomics by the numbers, biden says it is working. but many americans say they are struggling to get food on the table. an economist has his analyst next. ♪ ♪ (vo) red lobster's new lobster & shrimp celebration ♪ (vo) three lobster and shrimp entrees for a limited time. ♪ after last month's massive solar flare added a 25th hour to the day, businesses are wondering "what should we do with it?" bacon and eggs 25/7. you're darn right. solar stocks are up 20% with the additional hour in the day.
