>> first of all we'll get an early answer in colorado there's 600,000 votes cast by mail. those are being counted and we'll shortly get totals on those. they will give a good indication. my sense is this could be close on the republican and democratic sides. norton was the early favorite last year. lackluster start to her campaign. buck got energy and momentum. over the last four, five weeks she has come on strong. he made a couple of s referring to tea party members as dumb, fill in the blank posteriors. you are claiming to be the tea party candidate. we'll see, this is going to be interesting. on the democrat side bennett the incumbent longtime favorite romanoff is coming on at the he did. i think we are likely to see both of these contests a close result. same on the republican side for governor republican hopes of a sweep of the governor's office badly damaged by charges of plagiarism against the front runner scott mcginnis. he may be hard-pressed win in the primary tonight. >> sean: it is a battle between obama and clinton as it s to bennett and romanoff or is that just media manufactured? >> i don't understand why clinton injected himself into this. clearly, this says that he does not have -- he's not cowed by the obama white house. it may be in this instance he wanted to show he was going to be independent. romanoff is the more liberal of the two. if you said which is sort of the dlc centrist democrat, i think you would pick up bennett more than roman of. clinton -- romanoff, yet clinton injected himself into the race. >> sean: you with former rnc chair ed gillespie, very well respected outfit, public opinion survey. as i understand it, you vice them -- you advise them? >> ed and i have been supporters of americans cross roads headed by mike duncan former rnc chairman and former general council of the u.s. chamber of commerce of the they commissioned a poll in the battle ground senate states. what it said was that the republicans have, in those states, we are talking about states like wisconsin and washington state and california and colorado and nevada, ohio, miss sorry, pennsylvania, new hampshire, florida, illinois, that the republicans have a lead in the generic ballot of seven points. more dangerous than that, they tested the themes of the democrats, like we are for change the republicans aren't those fell flat. more damaging they took the best things the democrats say on the economy, health care, financial reform and the general political climate and matched them up against what republicans say all four questions democrats lost by a considerable margin. >> sean: one other thing that stood out in the poll is independents, 47-25 are moving toward republicans. that was the swing in 2008. >> that's right we are seeing that reflected in every poll. reflected in the greenberg poll, democrat poll ter for national public radio, gallup, rasmussen. the thing that is driving this electorate is two things smaller of the two is republican intensity versus democrat intensity, which is a big advantage. but dwarfed by the independent swing which has gone from for obama to solidly against the democrats. >> sean: the intensity higher than it has ever been. scoring eight, nine, 10 on a 10 scale for conservatives. you said something the other night that interested me. because were you always hovering around the 35 mark in terms of republicans in the house. you now moving closer to that 39 and you are moving up to seven or eight in the senate. which tells me, i think we might have learned something in missouri too with that vote last week that things have really shifted on the ground more than maybe people anticipated. >> absolutely. in 2002, there were three million more democrats voting in the prime there's that year than republicans in 2006, the last off year election three million more democrats voted in the off year election than republicans. before tonight's primaries and the runoff in georgia there's a gubernatorial race in georgia the republicans have a three million vote advantage over the democrats. we've had a six million vote swing. one primary, two, that's one thing. if you have as many as we've had this year and that big a swing it says something. there's no doubt, four years ago there were 82 million votes cast in the general election in races for the house of representatives. i would not be surprised to see 90 million and there's no doubt we'll see significantly above the 82 we saw four years ago. >> sean: what is harder tv or filling in for rush?
