was tasered by police at the occupy d.c. campsite at mcpherson square. the graphic video was posted on youtube. >> we all know you're coming tomorrow! >> reporter: a news 4 photographer also captured these images of the man after he was tasered. witnesses say he was angry about the signs being posted warning protesters that after sunday night they couldn't sleep here anymore. >> but it did sound like it was -- could very well have been excessive. and i understand he is in the hospital and maybe charged as well. >> reporter: the incident comes as police plan to crack down on what they call camping here at mcpherson square and freedom plaza. national park land. occupy d.c. protesters have been conducting what they call a 24-hour-a-day vigil here since october. >> you know, people at the top who are krnd about where and how we may be sleeping in mcpherson square and meanwhile there are families throughout the country that are being forced out of their home and we're not having that same tough discussion. >> reporter: on friday park police and rangers began posting notices on tents that come noon monday they'll begin inspections to ensure the no camping rules are being followed. >> i assume everybody will be doing their duty, what they perceive their duty to be, and hopefully they'll be behaving each other -- treating each other with respect and respecting everyone's dignity. on both sides. >> reporter: while some are spending what could be their last night sleeping in tents here, rich kaufman says he's already taken his down. >> oh, i don't like when the police mess with my stuff. so my tent's down. but we kind of have like some chairs -- well, if you come around front, we've got some chairs and signs, and we're just going to hang out. >> reporter: so he plans to hang out. this is the notice that's been put out by the national park service. it clearly indicates if you read it that if anyone is found to have camping gear and equipment that is in violation of the rules. those items and property can be seized and the owners would have 60 days to come back them up. and again, all this gets under way at noon tomorrow. reporting live from mcpherson square, darcy spencer, news 4. aaron, back to you. >> all right, darcy, thank you. the body found in a well in prince george's county was indeed a missing activist from alexandria. qulin harris disappeared back in september. police say autopsy results show that he was murdered. officers found his body thursday after an anonymous tip. harrison was known for visiting local recreation centers in alexandria and helping to find tutors for children. police are trying to figure out what caused a crash on the g.w. parkway that killed a woman, injured a child, and shut down that road for several hours. it happened this afternoon on the northbound side of the parkway near chain bridge road. investigators say a car hit a tree. still no word on what led to a deadly crash in fairfax county. this happened this afternoon on kingstown boulevard near kingstown village parkway. one person was killed. police have not released that person's identity. another person was also hurt and taken to a nearby hospital. we turn to the weather now. our sunny day has turned into a rainy night for some people. meteorologist chuck bell's in storm center 4. and chuck, i hear there's even some snow out there somewhere. >> absolutely right. reports from some of our weather watchers early are out toward the blue ridge and winchester with snowflakes flying there. we've had reports of snow from hagerstown to frederick, maryland and snowflakes flying as close in as rockville and gaithersburg as well. temperatures are still in the mid 40s in washington but already into the low and mid 30s just out to the north and west of town. and you can see here on radar the green is rain but the white and the pink here is some snow. so we'll zoom in just a little bit here, show you where the rain and snow is mixing in. it's still almost all rain now right in the city of washington, but there are snowflakes flying now into northern parts of loudoun county, to the north and west sides of gaithersburg here. those are headed into southern montgomery county out toward columbia, maryland and eventually these will be rolling into prince george's county as well. not a whole lot expected with all this but it might be just enough to get the ground white in a few spots. so rain, snow, gusty winds for the next hour or two. maybe a quick half an inch to almost an inch on grassy surfaces. road beds are warm. most of any potential for accumulation north and west of town. no major impacts on the monday morning commute. all this will be a memory by the time those buzzers go off first thing in the morning. brown and jim graham say they've uncovered evidence of employees at the housing agency enriching themselves in what they call a brazen abuse of authority. they say it has to do with the sale and renovation of city properties which favor contractors. the councilmen specifically cite $4 million given to peaceaholics. that's an anti-gang organization that has little housing experience. graham and brown want the inspector general and attorney general to launch probes. we turn to decision 2012 tonight. there are just two days before the florida primary. a new poll shows mitt romney widening his lead. newt gingrich, though, insists that no matter what happens on tuesday he's in it for the long haul. brian mooar is following the race. >> reporter: newt gingrich is trailing mitt romney in florida but says he can still seize the gop nomination. >> we have no evidence yet that romney anywhere is coming close to getting a majority. and i think when you take all of the non-romney votes it's very likely that at the convention there will be a non-romney majority and maybe a very spushl one. >> reporter: after picking up the endorsement of herman cain on saturday gingrich is hoping to be the last conservative standing. rick santorum canceled campaign appearances to be with his ailing daughter. and ron paul isn't even campaigning in florida. but the latest nbc news poll shows gingrich is trailing romney by 15 points. >> 196 house republicans that voted to reprimand newt gingrich when he was speaker. >> reporter: gingrich says he's fallen behind because he's getting air-bombed with negative ads. but romney says the former speaker is just making excuses. >> i think for each of us if we fail somewhere, if we fail in a debate or we fail to get the surnt of people it's time to look in the mirror. >> reporter: florida looking like a two-man fight for 50 delegates, winner take all. brian mooar, nbc news, washington. >> more than 400,000 people have already voted in florida, and those early votes seem to be favoring mitt romney. maryland's governor is apologizing for his wife's controversial comments about gay marriage opponents. martin o'malley spoke at the 24th national conference of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equality today. he acknowledged that his wife made a mistake when she called people who opposed legalization cowards during a welcoming speech at that conference on thursday. today o'malley said, "none of us speak perfectly, and sometimes we make mistakes." a new poll shows governor o'malley faces an uphill climb getting an ambitious agenda through the legislature. a new "washington post" poll finds that 55% of marylanders approve of the job o'malley is doing. only 50% of those polled support the governor's push for legalizing gay marriage. 70% of the people oppose o'malley's call for a 10-cent gas tax increase. 56%, though, of the people approve of an income tax increase on high-income earners. the governor will give his state of the state address on wednesday. the giants and patriots square off one week from tonight for super bowl xlvi. tonight one team has already arrived in indianapolis, and the festivities are well under way there. nbc's jay gray has the story. >> reporter: the patriots landed sunday evening. >> we've got a lot of work in front of us. i think our players are obviously "30 americans." the corcoran describes it as a showcase of many of the most important african-american artists from the past three decades. earlier today mr. obama and his daughters played basketball at the interior department. well, it was a heartbreaking mistake for some high school seniors. on friday they learned they'd been accepted by early decision to vassar college in new york. only to find out later that they'd actually been rejected. nbc's gus rosendale explains what went wrong. >> reporter: when mary hanley logged on to check her acceptance status at vassar college on friday, the news was great. at least in the beginning. >> 4:00 at log on. it says, dear mary, you're in. and i was -- i called my mom. i called all my friends. i updated my facebook. it was a good old time. >> reporter: but mary was caught up in a computer glitch. vassar college says for about 30 minutes, 122 early decision applicants were told they were accepted to the school. in reality, 76 of them will been rejected, and mary was one of them. >> before my mom got home i went back on so i could show her and then it was like you got rejected. and is with like, wait, what? i was so confused. i logged out and logged back in like three times to make sure it wasn't like a mix-up. >> i came home from work to find my daughter on the floor. she's an extremely strong girl. crying her eyes out, hysterical. and i just didn't know what to do. >> reporter: vassar calls the mistake a system error and sent out corrections by friday night. mary is still disappointed, but she's ready to move on. >> i still have my other applications out there. i got accepted to stony brook. i still do have my options. i mean, it hurts now, but i'll get through it. >> reporter: that was gus rosendale reporting. vassar college's president released a statement apologizing to the students for the mistake and for any additional stress that the error may have added to the college admissions process. and it is a stressful process. >> no doubt about it. >> so many years ago i remember that. >> yes, well. >> yes, well. chuck's here now. sterling and rockville's where i heard some snow was falling. >> absolutely right. and we've had snow reports all the way out beginning in far western maryland coming through the panhandle of west virginia, now getting into the northern and western suburbs, and eventually we might even see literally a snowflake or two in downtown washington. don't get your hopes up. not much in the way of any real snow potential out there, but some lucky folks, northern montgomery county out into frederick, maryland might get a half an inch of snow with this little quick-moving clipper out there. let's go outside and take a look at it from our camera. ceilings have lowered. low visibilities out there. squally weather is the best way to describe it. wind-whipped raindrops and snowflakes zipping into the downtown washington area right now, coming in from the western suburbs. 45 degrees still at national airport. you say it can't snow at 45 degrees. i assure you this temperature will be dropping more than ten degrees over built next 60 to 70 minutes. it's going to go down fast. as you make your plans for your monday, don't worry about the monday morning commute. all this will be done by about 3:00 in the morning. so 34 to get you started. there may be a little accumulation in some of the northern and western suburbs of some grassy surfaces seeing a little bit of snow. but that won't last long. nothing will stick to the roadway. so the monday morning commute is not in any real gentlemen jeopardy. here you can see on storm 4 radar right now, showers moving into the northern and eastern parts of prince george's county, central montgomery county. it's changing over to snow here out toward damascus and laytonsville, mount area all seeing some snowflakes right now. into downtown washington it's mostly raindrops. it's all still rain down toward andrews air force base, waldorf, la plata, out card quantico, i-5, and this is still rain. this is a quick-moving system. the back end is already starting to come into northern frederick and northern montgomery counties. don't get your hopes up for this one. i can tell you that. this cold front will be long down through southern maryland bit time the sun comes up. seasonably cold start, 20s and 30s, to get you out your door on monday morning. and a mix of clouds and sunshine throughout the day tomorrow. on the chilly side tomorrow. but the warmer weather is coming back fast. sunshine returns by tuesday with temperatures back into the 60s. so overnight tonight rain, snow, and wind coming to an end by about 3:00 in the morning. dry for the monday morning commute to work and school. startup temperatures 26 to 32. and then for tomorrow a mix of clouds and sunshine. a little breezy first thing in the morning but the winds will lay down tomorrow afternoon. highs will hold in the mid 40s tomorrow, but then the southwest winds return and winter disappears once again. high temperature 62 degrees on tuesday. 65 on wednesday. that is 21 degrees warmer than average for the last day of january. thursday -- wednesday is the first day of february, rather. thursday is groundhog day. punxsutawney phil, cloud cover around, should mean he will not see his shadow, and believe it or not that means in theory anyway that winter will not go on an extra six weeks. not that we even had six weeks of winter so far. but that's the way it looks so far from my opinion. >> and you guys don't going to expand bus service to the mark center in alexandria. metro route 28x, leesburg limited, will add more eastbound trips during the morning rush and westbound trips in the afternoon. buses will run every 25 to 30 minutes between tyson's corner and the mark center. the route will include stops at the west falls church and seven corners shopping center. however it eliminates stops at carlin springs road. today marked the end of an era for the first starbucks on the east coast. that location was kontin avenue. it first opened in northwest washington back in 1993. it's closing because the shopping center where it's located is being renovated. >> it's my only little reserve place in d.c. where i can get a cup of coffee, sit down, read the newspaper, not worry about the rest of the world for a few minutes. and just found out today that it's closing. so i'm a little upset. waiting two years for another starbucks cup of coffee is going to be difficult. >> we'll find you another
