>> well, you know, frequently the charges are brought before psyche evaluations are ordered. so, you know, it's a little bit different than the usual scenario. i think what is going to happen, though s probably on monday or tuesday, they're going to have to make a decision about whether they can bring charges or not. i think if it stays in state court, threats is the likely charge unless one of the guns is illegal. and i am sure, you know, they will try to look and see if they can push it to federal court for federal charges. but if they can't do either of those, it's going to be on the civil commitment track, which means he could get out pretty soon. >> based on what we know, where do you think it's most clear neil prescott may have broken the law? the alleged threats to his boss? the threats in combination with is with having the means to carry them out? >> he made threats that were very serious. and specific. the weapons clearly demonstrate he had the ability to carry them out. i think you can bring threats charges. but if he doesn't have a significant prior record, the judge would be left with trying to make a decision about dale and there is a good chance that bail would be set for him to pay and get out on. >> as far as what we could see, no real criminal record here but a speeding charge. what were the likely charges be in this case? >> well, you know threats are a possibility n. maryland, for a first-time offender, it can go up to 15 years but the sentenceing guidelines will be around probation for a first- time offender. i don't know that he would be held based on the seriousness of that and on the other hand, there is a danger to the community and pretrial detention orders, but for a charge like this that would be unusual. you get pretrial attention in homicide cases, rape cases and those sorts of things. >> given what happened in colorado and the joker reference made by the gunman in that case, it looks like the police gave the alleged threats made by prescott more attention here. >> and i am glad they did give them attention. i think the prince georges county police in absence of the colorado situation would have take know a hard look at this, and you know, thank goodness they did and they should be commend for what they did here. >> glen ivy, good insight. thank you for helping us look ahead in this case. >> thank you. that was glen ivy earlier. and time for our first look at the weather tonight. >> and we were looking at the severe storms and that is looks like the all clear now? it starts with the uniform s. it similar to the ones you're used to seeing in your neighborhood? >> can you always ask to see their credentials. we are all required to carry our credentials at all times, our photo i.d. >> can you ask call 911 and ask calmly if a real officer is there to speak with you. cases like friday's robbie attempts are incredibly frustrating. >> we have spent a lot of years building the trust of the community, building a working relationship with them and the last thing we want is some, somebody coming in pretending to be us and now we're kind of going backwards. coming up on the news at 10, we have gotten an alert from people in the d.c. area. watch out for burglars at the gas station. tonight, police are on the hunt for a pair of serial purse snatchers. >> it's the first full day of the summer olympic. a look at how the u.s. faired so far and not everyone across the pond is happy the games are in town. the news at 10 continues after this. . the news continues with gas station robbers on the run tonight. it's not the register money but customers' purses. >> they say the thieves are responsible for a handful of purse snatchings in the past two weeks. take a look. this is one of those robberies caught on tape at landover gas station, i should say. watch as one of the suspects gets out of the suv, walks over to the pump and then to snatch the victim's purse through the passenger window and gets away within seconds in that suv. today, we talked to a victim of a separate purse snatching in d.c. who did not want to be identified. >> another guy inside of the car waived the gun to let me know that he had a gun. and just grabbed my stuff. >> coming up on the news edge at 11, the victim tried to track down the culprits on her own and why she thinks police seemed disinterested in her case. montgomery county police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in the potomac river today. they found the body about 10:00. he's an adult man described as caucasian and wearing blue athletic workout pant when is he was pulled out of the water. anyone with information or has anyone missing that fits that basic description is asked to call montgomery county major crimes at the number there on your screen. 9 people were arrested after a boat sank off of the coast of ocean city this morning. the coast guard said they got the call about 10:30, the 38- foot boat was taking on water about 46 miles out. half an hour later, the boat was underwater. several people on the boat needed rescuing and medical treatment. searchers have found the bodies of two american climbers on the mountain in peru. the 32-year-old ben horn was from annandale, virginia. he and his friend, 29-year-old jill weiss died on the way down from the top of the mountain several days ago. the rescue coordinator said they fell off of the ridge and expects to remove the bodies from the mountain some time tomorrow. the police have a man in custody after a deadly shooting spree in pennsylvania. they say this man, kevin klease killed seven people and kidnapped a little girl in quincy town, should northeast of hagerstown. investigators think he went to confront his estrangeed wife about custody agreements. she died and so did her boyfriend and his mother. klease and his daughter were found 250 miles away in ohio. fortunately, she was not hurt. a 13-year-old
