we have clear air in some parts. that doesn't mean you should leave. stay sheltered, hunkered in. the eyewall is where the strong winds come in and they are coming in quickly. hopeful little they will take a northeastern turn. 160-mile-per-hour winds. they were up to 185-mile-per-hour winds. that's a little bit of good news. maybe a little wind shear as well. moving west. parked over the bahamas. they have until tonight before they see some relief. remains a category five throughout the day. by tuesday, category 4 storm. still a major hurricane. stays a major hurricane. also on wednesday and thursday. it's not until friday where we see a cat 2 storm. a landfall along by the coast. cape hatteras. we will watch that. it will move off north and east. it is moving very, very slow.

breaking news in the search for the ship lost during hurricane joaquin. they are saying some 3 miles below the surface near the baham bahamas. this comes as the ship's owner has filed a lawsuit to block legal action from the families of the missing ship's crew. it did everything in its power to ensure the ship is safe and should bare no financial liability. so martin savidge has been working this for us and joins us from atlanta. first of all, how did they find this. >> they had a rough idea of where this vessel might be given this position it was lost on october 1st. there were 33 people on board. so they have a good idea of where to look. over the weekend they did spot something on the bottom and it seemed to match the dimensions of the vessel. nearly 800 people.

tropical storm before that. it changed quickly. but they had three hours leeway to know exactly what was going to happen, and the storm even continued to strengthen after they departed jacksonville, florida. that's what is a concern over this region. we'll show you the gps of the vessel and also what happened. at 5:00 in the morning on tuesday, they departed on the coast of florida. look at the forecast that was expected to be a tropical storm. expected to stay north of the baham bahamas. three hours after they depart, the forecast is now bumped up to a category 2, and then it remains for a couple of days and they had departed. we put the gps and the satellite with the storm system. wednesday afternoon, they are about 100 miles away from the center of the storm and approaching a category 1 hurricane. they have time to turn back.
