court are not necessarily the press. an update from the sheriff, former trump paid meadows, mark meadows, donald trump chief of staff has been booked at fulton county jail in georgia in the background to this is of course the list of prosecutors have set a deadline on local time there for the defendants, all 19 defendants to surrender so far. we have seen at least nine defendants to that and a few others have filled out and indeed mark meadows is one of those who was holding out and that attempted to have his case moved to a federal court but were now hearing the line that he has surrendered to the jail that we were watching earlier. barbara's been speaking from georgia and expecting donald trump to appear later and started by telling us what happened.
ending to a tragic story of senseless violence in new york. lauren pleading guilty to manslaughter, admitting she shoved beloved voice coach barbara in a fit of random rage on a new york city street in march of 2022. she fell, hitting her head, dying days later of a fatal brain injury. new yorkers were shocked at the insanity of the story. she was apparently angry after being asked to leave a manhattan park where she was having wine with her fiance. she apparently grew furious, through dinner at her fiance, leaving, only to encounter a few minutes later. manhattan district attorney alvin bragg today releasing a statement, saying that the 28-year-old aggressively shoved barbara to the ground, and walked away as the beloved new yorker laid there bleeding. here she is walking the street that day. she reached a deal in which she will spend eight years in prison. and the story of a life lost for no good reason.

other statutes that could be relevant tonight? >> well, so, in particular, i believe there was a forgery or a conspiracy or an attempt to commit forgery. if you are looking at the alleged fake electors, they started by something that was in fact not to, or at least what the d.a. is going to allege, which is donald trump was actually elected president, right? they were duly elected electors. and they will send that after the u.s. senate and other places. you know, that is one offense, you know, that i would use if i were the prosecutor for this case, as what we call an act which we look at rico. >> and i will send this to barbara. when we talk about a predicate act, or the way that rico does work in georgia, and long before we saw this document today, there have been many legal experts, lawyers, and others who talked about whether the state version of rico, the racketeering influence, is that organization to act could be in play here.
the georgia rico statute has a five-year mandatory minimum sentence. >> that's a striking reminder, which again, any potential defendant would care about what you just said. we have some reporters as well that are charging all this for us in georgia and from the courthouse. before i go to them, though, barbara, for those of us keeping time, i'm curious what you think about, what if anything can be gleaned from the length of time that the grand jury proceeds. we do know, and i will remind viewers who may be catching up in the evening in the east coast, this was something that began today. we were told, it could be up to a two-day process, that they did hold the night past the usual court joining time five pm. again, you can go long, something else happens. again, you could go long because you are doing what they're doing now. you finally got the voting process. and rachel maddow and others are standing by for our coverage continuing here by the end of this hour. so, i am curious, barbara, do you glean anything from how long the voting process takes? >> yes, i think the fact that they have state this late

say and have shown this ruined their lives in some ways. >> well, chris, that's absolutely right. to piggy back on what barbara was talking about, one of the things that fani willis is going to have to do in this case is give the victims of these acts an actual face that the jury can connect to. that's something she's going to be able to do with this count that deals with ruby freeman and shaye moss because now you're not talking about these very lofty ideas that you've talked about with respect to democracy and democratic institutions. you're talking two real human beings whose pain, whose struggle we have seen since they testified in front of the january 6th commission. and to hear their story, you can't help but to be impacted. that's going to be a huge thing for fani willis to be able to engage as a prosecutor. the other thing that's very important, chris, is for a while now, a lot of people have been saying well, donald trump may have tried to do this but it
