Chinese Ambassador: London is the greatest cultural city on Earth

London has been hailed as the world’s leading center of culture and creativity.
Leading figures from London’s creative sector last night came together to stress the importance of culture to the city’s international reputation and influence.
At the event to launch London’s autumn season of blockbuster exhibitions the Chinese Ambassador to the UK hailed London as the greatest cultural city on earth and said that a forthcoming major exhibition on the Ming Dynasty at the British Museum would help promote better understanding between China and the UK.
The event at Tate Britain saw leading figures from across the city’s cultural institutions, including Sir Nicholas Kenyon, Director of the Barbican, Kerstin Mogull, Managing Director of Tate, and Sir Quentin Blake of the new House of Illustration at King’s Cross, highlight London’s amazing diversity of top class exhibitions, theatre, music and cultural events.

University of Toronto to aid in historic vaccination effort, host Mississauga clinic
By the end of March, up to 2,000 doses a day of Health Canada-approved vaccine is expected to be delivered at a clinic located at U of T Mississauga that’s run by Trillium Health Partners and overseen by Peel Public Health (photo by Nick Iwanyshyn)
The University of Toronto is hosting a COVID-19 vaccine clinic on its Mississauga campus and is exploring other ways to support the largest vaccination campaign in Canadian history – including providing space for clinics on its other campuses.
The THP-operated clinic has the capacity to deliver up to 2,000 doses a day of Health Canada-approved vaccine by the end of March – and could grow its capacity to 4,000 doses per day in later phases. It’s expected that the clinic could ultimately vaccinate up to half a million people against the coronavirus.

The 2020 Sweat Science Holiday Book List

The world’s parcel delivery services are slammed beyond capacity, but it’s not too late to give the gift of knowledge this holiday season. Just call up a local bookstore near your giftee’s address and have them put aside a copy of one of the books below. Or better yet, order a few for yourself. This winter, more than any other, is the right time to curl up on the sofa next to a big stack of books and stay the heck inside (other than during your daily workout or adventure, of course).
The list rules: these are books I liked this year. Some are old, others are new, and a few are still to come. They generally align with the themes of the Sweat Science column—science, endurance, fitness, adventure—but sometimes the connection is pretty slender. For more ideas, check out the fall book list I put together back in September.
