the city presidential power. but the misuse of presidential power to get a benefit something doesn't matter if lying about sex, we could put stormy daniels case ahea of this. >> you mention stormy daniels, the hush money payment they're almost as a joke, ar you surprised that this no might catch up with donald trump, and it might be the first time he's held accountable for committing a alleged crime? >> i don't know. i was actually referring bac to the - clinton impeachment wher republicans tried to war flying about sacks into a high crime or misdemeanor i'm still trying to figure tha went out as i understand, from readin the paper, what the district attorney is looking at is no simply a falsehood about wha he did, but a failure to account for a proper way and counting it as a legal expense

to the clinton impeachment where republicans tried to morph lying about sex into a high crime or misdemeanor. i'm still trying to figure tha went out as i understand, from readin the paper, what the district attorney is looking at is no simply a falsehood about wha he did, but a failure to account for a proper way and counting it as a legal expense which would then be ta deductible it's not just lying about sack it's the other ways that i was being treated. >> before i go i want to ask about special counsel jack smith's investigation into wha i think a lot of peopl considered to be the mos egregious of donald trump' crimes the january 6th insurrection -- reports that smith's recen targeting of people close to the president on january the six, people like ivanke trump,

this administration more favors in the way that they're messaging and delivering this information to the public. >> joe, i know you will recall some of the hypocrisy going on in washington during the clinton impeachment days. and now you have congressional republicans ready to launch into investigations over this situation with the biden documents. when they were really just sort of excusing the former president for what was going on down at mar-a-lago. what is your sense of how the white house should manage that end of pennsylvania avenue? >> well, i think the one thing we can predict with confidence is that they will overplay their hand. they do it every time. i lived through this during impeachment with president clinton. they just can't help themselves. and just standing back and letting them do that and giving them enough rope to do it i think is a good strategy. the much more interesting thing is the media. it's -- i would hope that the media has learned from hillary's

columnist at the new york post and a fox news contributor. thank you so much for being with us. i want to start with this new lawyer, a very powerful attorney that hunter biden has hired, same lawyer jared kushner used during the russia probe and worked for dems during the clinton impeachment. so clearly hunter biden knows he's about to have a rough year with republicans taking the house. how do you read this? >> well, look, i agree that this is clearly, he's gearing up for the republican investigations. what's kind of amazing, of course, is he didn't feel he needed the top flight lawyers for his own, for the fbi investigation of him. the fbi has had his laptop since 2019, and as far as we know, they have done nothing with it despite the fact that it's been authenticated. so, i think the republican investigations are up against the fbi as well as they are

americans are interested in, like, for instance, the flawed afghanistan withdrawal, right? we can see probing interesting investigations. that one that would be embarrassing, perhaps, for the biden administration. at the same time, the voters really care about probes into clinical race theory? or hunter biden's business dealings? how do republicans manage to satisfy the base that wants those probes, but also legitimate exercises of oversight responsibilities here? >> well, i mean, that is the sort of thing that i think that republicans have been struggling with over the course of the last decade. as they have seen their ranks joined by more and more members of the far-right. as they have seen, you know, the tea party take over. you saw the benghazi investigations. you know, after -- you would think that they would learn from the over reach that they saw there. that they would have learned from the overreach during the clinton impeachment.

biden's business dealings? how do republicans manage to satisfy the base which want those latter probes, but also legitimate exercise oversight responsibilities here? >> i feel the republicans have been struggling with over the course of the last decade as they have seen their ranks joined by more more members of the far-right, as they have seen the tea party takeover, you saw the benghazi investigations. after -- you would think that they would have learned from the overreach that they saw their, that they would have learned from the overreach during the clinton impeachment. i feel for the biden administration in that they do need to corroborate these investigations. one of the things that they need to do is, even though many of them are going to be baseless, they have to prepare to hand over documents, to not fight in court over absolutely

and now, you have a congress, i believe she said that there is 90 women in the democratic caucus. i could be wrong. but, yeah, you have a congress that looks, you know, much much more like america. at least on the democratic side. and that is not entirely worth doing. but she has certainly been a major part of that. >> so, michelle, you are critical at the time of pelosi's handling of the first trump impeachment. as was, i as we're others. i still think that the historians will say that democrats were too soft. to slow. when it came to investigating trump and his family, and his acolyte holding to him to account. impeaching him, yes that too. but a lot of the blame for that has to be placed on a super cautious pelosi, does it not, as a reasonable argument as well? >> i think that that is absolutely true, i think that she was very slow to investigate trump, i think she didn't want to be seen to do what the republicans are doing

today, which is coming right out of the gate and saying that their first priority is a hunter biden and mint investigation. and i think she probably over learned the lessons of the quinton impeachment. but this isn't like the clinton impeachment, these impeachments work for high crimes and misdemeanors. and there were other high crimes and misdemeanors that went on vest a gated and unprosecuted. and i think we've seen, for example, with the january six committee. the power of a highly publicized, systematic investigation. to change the public conversation. >> so there's legitimate criticisms of pelosi. there is a legitimate criticisms, which flows intimate misogyny. flows into hate. without nancy pelosi as there, villain who will the gop, who will the right demonizes next michele? this is the favorite to take over a black man, it won't be hard for them to target him i guess? >> i think that that is true.

case this time. why do you think? what is the main reason for that? >> the biggest single reason is that the supreme court ended the 50 year constitutional right to abortion and i think that was such a shock to the system. in the past, there is only four occasion when the presidents party has done pretty well in the house in the first midterm election. they had big shots from outside the system. the depression, the cuban missile crisis, the clinton impeachment in 1998, 9/11 and the 2002 election. the abortion decision is of comparable magnitude and it may not be enough to completely erase all of the advantages that republicans had developed, particularly around voted dissatisfaction with inflation. but it has change the parameters and it has allow these democrats, particularly in statewide races for senate and governor where there is more money and more focused. to ship the question voters are asking from, what have democrats done and am i okay
