remainder of his life like the tech leaders are calling for a pause on a.i. to try to reign that? . >> well, oppenheimer wasn't really calling for disarmor meant. he was calling for regulation of it. he wanted to tell people that this weapon is so bad, it should be banned. the technology behind it should be regulated to ensure that we can verify the ban will hold. in the same way, i think a.i. needs to be regulated. we need to pay attention to our privacy laws, our copyright laws and reform them to take into account this new technology. so it's very much an oppenheimer moment as shown in the film. >> is it also in some -- if you speak to tech experts and a.i. experts, a lot of them will tell

so andy warhol's iconic images may be works of art, but at least one famous work of art also violated copyright law. of course that's the ruling from the supreme court. the justices siding with a prominent photographer, whose image was used to create warhol's silk screens of prints. now warhol's estate had argued the silk screen images were fundamentally different. they were based on but fundamentally different. they were art. they therefore did not violate copyright laws. seven of the justices rejected that reasoning. interesting alliance here, though. one of the court's most liberal justices, elena kagan was joined by the chief justice jean-roberts in dissent. they argue the decision will, quote, stifle creativity of every sort. it will impede new art and music and literature. it will thwart the expression of new ideas and the attainment of new knowledge. it will make our world poorer. thanks for joining us. thursday that the late artist andy war hol violated copyright laws. the court ruled had he infringed copyright of a celebrity photographer rejecting the argument that the pioneer had transformed the photo. it is a significant step in the debate between artistic freedom and intellectual property. and in other rulings handed down by the top court, silicon valley won two cases thursday giving online platforms protection for liability of content posted by users. jessica schneider has this story. >> reporter: big tech companies winning big at the supreme court. not only did a unanimous court say twitter, facebook and google could not be held liable for aiding and abetting terrorism merely by letting them post on their sites, but the court also let stand section 230, a law in place for decades, it shields internet companies for liability

howard: i'm concerned. yeah, you should be concerned. >> yes, i am. there is language in the current deal that would limit the use of a.i. i think the writers want that strengthened, and the studios, they're also concerned about a.i. as well. there's no copyright laws for a.i. yet, so i think that is a sexy issue but as yet i don't think it's necessarily a driving force dividing these two sides. howard: right. and just briefly, the management side says it's made a very generous offer but, clearly, the writers don't agree. and even people like the late night hosts seem to be siding emotionally with the writers. >> yes. and management usually keeps quiet during all of this. they know that it's going to be a challenge for them to get their points across. but the other day they came out with a lot of details from their pitches which includes increases in pay and residuals. but on this issue i mention before about basically mandatory staffing in writers' rooms and guaranteed weeks of work, on that one they're reluctant to budge on.

mentioned a moment ago, "the new york post" reported from inside the courtroom, that ed sheeran, who took the stand to defend his own work, even playing his guitar at moments, told members of the jury if the jury found against him and that he violated copyright laws, i'm done, i'm stopping. seems it's good timing, he's a very busy person, busy musician, he has a new album that is being released tomorrow, he's kicking off a new tour on saturday out of texas, it will take him across the country, it took six years for this case to wind its way through the federal court here in manhattan, it was filed in 2017, reaching to completion here, right in the building behind us, ed sheeran not liable on copyright claims brought by the descendants of ed townsend,

all. that is a deep fake, someone impersonating tom cruse using artificial intelligence, so a big can of worms is being opened with that. this is a recent headline talking about drake, the artist. he supposedly collaborated with another artist, song, but it was ai generated. so using this style of the vocals to make a fake song. that had to be ripped down from streaming websites because it was fake, unknown artist and record labels are going to have difficulty trying to address this kind of thing because the current copyright laws talk about using certain parts of the song, but not impersonating someone's style, that is not currently covered. ai is opening a big can of worms here in terms of what is considered copyrights.
