Mass vaccination site opens at Cal Poly Pomona. Next up: Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara

A mass COVID-19 vaccination site opened Friday at the Cal Poly Pomona campus and another large-scale site in Santa Clara is scheduled to open next week, even as vaccine supply continues to constrain the rollout.
The sites will become two of the biggest vaccine hubs in the state joining Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles if the operators can get their hands on enough doses, officials said.
A group of health organizations including Kaiser Permanente launched operations at Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, with plans to eventually offer 8,000 to 10,000 appointments per day, according to university officials.
The other new vaccination site is set to open early next week at Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara County health officials said. A joint effort between the county and the San Francisco 49ers, who play their home games at the stadium, it could become the largest vaccine hub in the state if it meets its goal of doling out 15,000 shots a day.

Feb 4, 2021
POMONA (CNS) - Another large-scale COVID-19 vaccination site will open in the Southland tomorrow, the result of a partnership among various health organizations aimed at providing vaccines to particularly vulnerable residents, beginning with those aged 75 and over.
The site at Cal Poly Pomona is one of two opening in California, with the second located at Moscone Center in San Francisco. Organizers said each site will ultimately have the capacity to administer up to 10,000 doses per day, rivaling Los Angeles mass vaccination site at Dodger Stadium.
The sites are being opened by a consortium comprising Kaiser Permanente, Adventist Health, the California Medical Association, Dignity Health and Futuro Health, with coordinating assistance from the California Primary Care Association and the American Red Cross.

At a time when the pandemic has exposed a growing shortage of nurses, it should have been good news that there were more than 1,200 applicants to enter the associate degree program in nursing at Long Beach City College.
But the California community college took only 32 of them.
North of here, California State University, East Bay isn t enrolling any nursing students at all until at least next fall.
Higher education was struggling to keep up with the skyrocketing demand for nurses even before the COVID-19 crisis. Now it s falling further behind.
