FIBA delivers gender-equity concept for 3x3 Olympic event at Tokyo 2020
TOKYO (Japan) - There will be an equal number of men and women’s athletes, referees, sports supervisors, MC’s and DJ’s as 3x3 makes its Olympic debut in Tokyo, Japan on July 24-28.
“The promotion of women in basketball is one of the three strategic priorities of FIBA for the 2019-2023 cycle,” FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said.
“We wanted to use the Olympic stage to send a strong and positive message for parity, which is paramount in basketball, especially in 3x3.”
Eight men’s teams and eight women’s teams (meaning 32 athletes in each gender) will compete in Tokyo. They will play on the same court with the same ball, at the same venue, alternating between men and women’s games on the same days. This concept is rooted in 3x3: it applies to every single national FIBA3x3 competition, including the yearly FIBA 3x3 World Cup.

Sources - Nneka Ogwumike's petition to play for Nigeria denied by FIBA


Former WNBA MVP Nneka Ogwumike was notified by FIBA that her petition to play for her native Nigeria in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics was denied due to "substantial involvement" of more than 10 years with Team USA, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.
Ogwumike is exploring all her options, including a possible application to the Court of Arbitration in Sport, sources said. The court could expedite a full hearing if both sides agree. FIBA could also allow Ogwumike to participate until there is a hearing.
The Nigerian Basketball Federation filed an appeal to FIBA on behalf of Ogwumike and Elizabeth Williams, the Atlanta Dream center who was also denied because of previous involvement with Team USA. The Federation wrote that Ogwumike and Williams were "two of the top players that would have made our team one of the strongest at the Games."

(ATR) The governing body for soccer in North and Central America and the Caribbean (Concacaf) announces a multi-year partnership with Qatar Airways.

The deal begins with this year’s Concacaf Gold Cup, held in the United States from July 10-August 1. Qatar Airways will be the Official Airline of the tournament.
Qatar Airways’ brand will be prominently featured at all 11 Gold Cup venues across eight major U.S. metropolitan areas. The airline will also become the presenting partner of the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League, and gain visibility at other international events such as the Concacaf Champions League, Caribbean Club Championship and the confederation’s age-group World Cup qualification events.
