洪堡论坛所在的柏林王宫位于市中心，是一座重建后外观保持原貌、内部采用现代设计的巴洛克建筑。从7月20日起首先开放的是王宫的两层展区，共有6个展览，包括两大特展“可怕的美——大象、人类、象牙”，针对儿童和家庭的“请坐！”，开幕展“自然之后”和“全球化的柏林”以及长期展览“洞察力——洪堡兄弟”与“地方的历史”。

哈特穆特·多格洛告诉记者：“洪堡论坛是一个汇集了文化、艺术和科学的场所，借助展览或者文化活动的形式，致力于让人自省原本认为是正确的立场。它应该成为人们可以倾听彼此、脱离自己固有思维、与陌生人进行交流、了解不同声音与视角的地方。也许在此基础上，我们能够依托这个包容的论坛寻找到如何为共同的未来更好地承担起责任的答案。”
多格洛表示，希望很快能有世界各地、特别是来自中国的游客再次到访柏林，参与和丰富这个相遇、沟通、开拓视野的平台。

据悉，洪堡论坛以德国著名教育改革家、语言学家和政治家威廉·冯·洪堡与著名自然地理学家、探险家和博物学家亚历山大·冯·洪堡命名，纪念两兄弟在各自的领域为全人类作出的卓越贡献。洪堡论坛的揭幕主题是“终于开放了！”。因为该项目从提出方案到设计再到落成耗时超过17年，再加上遭遇新冠疫情，又延迟了近两年才得以迎接访客。

德国联邦政府负责文化事务的国务部长莫妮卡·格鲁特斯认为，洪堡论坛的揭幕不仅受到德国乃至整个欧洲的高度关注，也对世界具有非常重要的意义：“它是一座全新类型的博物馆，让人们在洪堡兄弟精神的感召下充分体验启蒙运动的传统与不同文化间的和平对话。当下的德国作为全世界的伙伴，希望所有人都能够带着好奇心去面对陌生事物，而不是习惯性地去排斥或者贬低。坐落在柏林的心脏地带，洪堡论坛通过阐释与人类生存息息相关的重大问题、通过发起关于欧洲以及世界的新辩论，为大家筑起一条‘理解’与‘和解’的幸福之路。”（总台记者阮佳闻）
