Rural Illinois Bar Opening Prompted Outbreak of 46 COVID Cases

The CDC said the event occurred indoors with no outside airflow. A specific location of the bar wasn't provided.
One patron, who came down with a runny nose in the days following the event, reported 26 close contacts at a school during indoor sports practice and in-person instruction. Two student-athletes who were close contacts of this person were diagnosed with COVID-19, officials said.
Another person who was present at the bar worked at a long-term care facility as a certified nursing assistant, and although that person was asymptomatic, they received a positive result during routine COVID-19 testing at the facility.
Three secondary cases, a staff member and two residents, were reported at the facility in the following days, officials said. One of those residents was hospitalized on Feb. 20, within 14 days of the positive test result and was discharged the same day.

Illinois COVID Update Today: IL reports 1,997 new coronavirus cases, 19 deaths; Phase 4 modifications expected this week

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Officials are working on a new phased reopening plan as the state of Illinois set another vaccination record Monday, with the 7-day average now above 100,000 doses a day.
Illinois Department of Public Health officials reported 1,997 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 19 deaths on Tuesday.
It comes as Chicago is set to announce a March 29 start date for the next vaccination phase. In 1C, more essential workers are eligible - including those in hospitality, construction, law, banking and media - as are Chicagoans ages 16 to 64 with serious health conditions.
"Broadly speaking, if you have an underlying condition, you're going to be able to get a vaccine in April or May," said Dr. Allison Arwady, director, Chicago Dept. of Public Health.

More women being lured in to extremist groups like QAnon during COVID-19 pandemic, educators say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- COVID-19 created a year of uncertainty, fear and change. According to investigators who study fringe groups, a growing number of women are being drawn in to various extremist groups such as QAnon.
"I just did feel very vulnerable at that moment and kind of, it was an eye opener because I never thought I would ever be a Q follower in any way, and even this, I wasn't necessarily following them but I was intrigued by their beliefs and I think that's kind of how people don't always realize that they're following Q," said Phoebe Keliikupakako, a junior at Boston University.
