Good afternoon to the esteemed lawmakers who are joining us remotely, and to all the people of Illinois, who have endured so much this past year. Joining me today are two people essential to my work as governor: the incomparable lieutenant governor, Juliana Stratton, and my remarkable wife, First Lady MK Pritzker.

SPRINGFIELD — Whether its high taxes, crime, cold winters or a combination of all three, Illinoisans continue to flee the state for greener pastures.
A total of 80,000 people left Illinois last year, the seventh consecutive year the state has sustained a net population loss. In the last decade, Illinois has recorded the second largest population loss among U.S. states with West Virginia leading the way.
Only nine of Illinois’ 102 counties saw a population increase over the past decade. Kendall County, home to Yorkville and Oswego, bucked the trend and led the state with a 6.6% population gain.

High school sports — including the higher-risk football, basketball and wrestling — may now be played in three regions of Illinois as the state continues to loosen restrictions amid the pandemic.
All regions of the state had moved out of Tier 3 mitigations as of Friday as the COVID-19 health metrics continue to show improvement statewide. The three of the state’s 11 regions that have rolled back to Phase 4 mitigations are free to allow high school sports. Meanwhile, the entire state will move into Phase 1B of its vaccine distribution plan starting Monday.
