Coronavirus India updates Feb 26: India reported 16,577 new coronavirus cases, 12,179 discharges and 120 deaths on Friday, as per the Union Health Ministry. The total tally of Covid-19 cases has reached 1,10,63,491, total discharges so far are 1,07,50,680 and the death toll is 1,56,825. Meanwhile, the cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered to healthcare and frontline workers in the country has crossed 1.30 crore, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday. From March 1, the Covid-19 vaccination will be extended to people aged 60 years and above and those aged above 45 years with comorbidities, it stated.

New Delhi: India has so far supplied about 230 lakh doses of vaccines against COVID-19 to friends and partners across the world and the country's vaccine capacity will generate another 1.1 billion doses for the WHO-led COVAX scheme that distributes them to developing countries, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said on Monday.
In his address to the Haryana Institute of Public Administration, Shringla also said India believes in the vision of an open, free, rules-based Indo-Pacific region supported by inclusive global and regional institutions that promote prosperous, stable and sovereign states on the basis of shared interests.

13,193 Fresh COVID-19 Cases In India, 2.4% Higher Than Yesterday
India's tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 1,09,63,394 with 13,193 new infections being reported in a day, while the recoveries have surged to 1,06,67,741, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.  The deaths increased to 1,56,111 with 97 daily new fatalities, the data showed.
As per the Health Ministry, 98,46,523 vaccine doses were given through 2,10,809 sessions till Thursday evening.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is "extremely grateful" for the gift of 200,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses announced by India for peacekeepers, the spokesperson for the UN chief has said.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, while addressing the UN Security Council meeting on COVID-19 on Wednesday, announced a gift of 200,000 COVID-19 doses for the UN peacekeepers.
"Keeping in mind the UN Peacekeepers who operate in such difficult circumstances, we would like to announce today a gift of 200,000 doses for them, he said.
