A Christian groom and his bride who lost more than 100 of their friends and family members after a fire broke out during their wedding celebration at a banquet hall in Iraq’s biggest Christian town in northern Nineveh province on Sept. 26, say even though they survived the blaze, they feel “dead inside.”
The tragedy struck the town of Qaraqosh, a centre of Iraq's small Christian community near Mosul, in a wedding hall with a capacity of 'no more than 400 people', Interior Minister Abdel Amir Al-Shammari said.
A fire tore through a wedding hall in Qaraqosh in northern Iraq on Tuesday, killing at least 100 people and injuring 150 others, prompting anger at the lack of safety measures at the venue.
The fire happened in Iraq's Nineveh province in its Hamdaniya area, a predominantly Christian area just outside of the city of Mosul, authorities said.
