An all-wheel drive, turbocharged, manual sedan that’s Japanese-built and goes like the clappers but isn’t a Subaru Impreza WRX or Mitsubishi Lancer Evo? That’s what today’s tempter is.
While most Mazda 6s are nothing more than perfectly adequate (and frankly boring) sedan for taking the kids to school, the MPS version was a truly awesome factory-made sleeper.
Under the bonnet was a 2.3-litre turbocharged inline four, developing a stonking 256hp (190kW) and 380Nm (280ft-lb) that was sent through a six-speed manual transmission to an AWD driveline. How good does that sound?

Britishvolt has hired veteran Ford executive Graham Hoare as president of its global operations, the company said.
Hoare's appointment comes after the battery-cell maker recruited the U.S. automaker's former European vice president of product development, Joe Bakaj, as an advisor in March.
Britishvolt has also hired Nick Spencer, a former BMW and Jaguar Land Rover executive to join Bakaj on its advisory board.

LONDON -- UK-based battery startup Britishvolt could build a second factory in Canada.
Company adviser and former Ford Motor executive Joe Bakaj said Canada is attractive "in terms of availability of renewable energy and potentially raw materials."
Bakaj said the plans are at an early stage. "We are having very good discussions with local governments," he added.
Bakaj spent more than 30 years with Ford working in the U.S. and Europe. He oversaw the engineering teams that created engines in the EcoBoost lineup and retired from the automaker in 2018 when he was head of product development in Europe.
