U.S. Capitol Police Officer Billy Evans gave his life defending the Capitol on Good Friday. Noah Green plowed a blue Nissan Altima over Evans as he guarded the north entrance to the Capitol. Green also hit USCP Officer Kenny Shaver, crashed the Altima into a steel barricade, and leaped from the vehicle, waving a machete.

And, you know, Mom, I didn’t know Billy, but I knew Billy. I grew up with Billys in Claymont and Scranton, Pennsylvania. Billy was always the kid that you know if you got in a fight and you’re outnumbered three to one, he’d still jump in, knowing you’d both get beaten.

Police say 25-year-old Noah Green rammed a blue Nissan Altima into USCP Officers Billy Evans and Kenny Shaver. Green then plowed the car into a reinforced steel barricade blocking his route to the Capitol, jumped out and wielded a machete. Officers shot and killed Green.
By CHRIS MARQUETTE | CQ-Roll Call | Published: April 7, 2021 WASHINGTON (Tribune News Service) — After an off-duty Capitol Police officer learned Friday that shots were fired near the Capitol, the officer called a colleague who was on duty and in tears. Earlier that afternoon, Noah Green slammed the blue car he was driving into two Capitol Police Officers, killing Officer William “Billy” Evans and injuring Officer Kenny Shaver. Capitol Police officers rushed Evans to the hospital in a cruiser. “So all I’m thinking is they’re at [the hospital] covered in blood, just freaking out,” the off-duty officer told CQ Roll Call.
Morale Plunges Among Short-Staffed Capitol Hill Police The U.S. Capitol Hill Police (CHP) are short-staffed and overworked as the number of officers leaving the force mounts on a daily basis, but Congress doesn’t appear to be in a hurry to address the problem. There are 1,839 members of the CHP, which has lost three members to death this year. Officer Brian Sicknick died in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 riot, while Officer Howard Liebengood took his own life a few days later. Officer William Evans was killed on April 2, when Nation of Islam follower Noah Green slammed into a road barrier that Evans and Officer Kenny Shaver were manning. Shaver was seriously injured but survived, while Green was shot and killed by other CHP officers when he ran toward them while brandishing a large knife.
