Growing up in California, Manpreet Toor remembers being exposed to bhangra — a lively Punjabi dance genre that is performed widely in the Indian diaspora — in her parents’ garage. “In Punjabi households, back in the day, we used to have parties in the garage all the time,” Toor said. She heard the sounds of music like the folk and pop artist Sardool Sikander, one of India’s most beloved singers, who died of COVID-19 in February.

By shooting billions of lasers at the ground, scientists have uncovered evidence of a sophisticated civilization left by the ancient Maya who lived in the northern Yucatán Peninsula in what is now Mexico, a new study finds.
The laser survey revealed that in a region of the hilly northern Yucatán, known as the Puuc (pronounced "Pook"), the Maya built remarkable structures, including artificial reservoirs, more than 1,200 ovens, a handful of terraces for farming and nearly 8,000 platforms where houses were built. The ancient Maya also quarried the rock there, the laser scan revealed.

“The influx to museums and archaeological sites in Mexico decreased by 73.3 percent during 2020, compared to the previous year, due to the closure as a result of Covid-19, and to a lesser extent, due to the presence and effects of cyclones and intense rains that impacted the country”, reported the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
Although in Yucatán, the decrease was 66.1 percent, Chichén Itzá became the most visited archaeological zone in the country, ousting Teotihuacán.
