Sapir Journal Seeks to Highlight 'Sane Middle' in Jewish Discourse

Sapir Journal Seeks to Highlight ‘Sane Middle’ in Jewish Discourse
By Elizabeth Kratz | July 01, 2021
Last month, the Maimonides Fund, with distribution assistance from the Jewish Insider, launched the first of four planned 2021 limited edition print and online issues of Sapir Journal (sapirjournal.org). The journal seeks to address the future of the American Jewish community and its intersection with cultural, social and political issues.
With the first edition focused entirely on social justice issues, many of its articles immediately resonated online and went viral immediately. The second issue, expected to be released soon, will focus on power and its various dimensions for Jews. The third journal will focus on continuity, education and philanthropy, while the fourth issue’s topic is still to be determined.

Among America's Mega-Donors, Many Jews, but Few Gifts to Jews - Jewish Telegraphic Agency

Robert Meyerhoff, a Maryland real-estate developer, and his wife, Jane, promised last year to bequeath their $300 million collection of more than 100 modern art works to Washington’s National Gallery of Art.
Irwin Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer of the San Diego wireless company Qualcomm, and his wife, Joan, pledged $110 million to the University of California-San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering, which bears their name.
These Jewish couples were among dozens of philanthropists such as McDonald’s heiress Joan Kroc who gave the most generous donations to charities in 2003, according to a new Chronicle of Philanthropy report.
They also signal the continuation of a longtime trend, where the biggest “mega-gifts” from Jews go to non-Jewish causes.

A new L.A.-based film foundation called Jewish Story Partners launched Thursday with the goal of expanding the range of stories reflecting Jewish lives, with Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw backing the organization.
Jewish Story Partners supports independent films that give fresh, nuanced perspectives to tell a diverse spectrum of Jewish experiences, histories and cultures, and the group was also founded with the mission of addressing the glaring gap of funding in Jewish stories. The film foundation hopes to explore untold narratives and re-cast familiar ones, preserve historical memory, surprise with new ideas, challenge established positions, confront difficult realities and breach artistic frontiers.
