footage, there's also some information about a live feed of cameras that the u.s. capitol police was able to watch. walk us through what we know that's new this morning. >> reporter: all right. erica, so much to go over. a source tells cnn that the u.s. capitol police first learned about this incident about ten minutes after it happened. an officer was able to see lights and sirens on a live camera feed at the u.s. capitol police command center in washington, d.c. now, in terms of that body worn camera, we understand that the attack was caught on camera and that the pelosis will be able to see it. the san francisco police chief here is crediting the dispatcher on the other end of that 911 call with saving paul pelosi's life. here is what he had to say. >> the dispatcher trying to really figure out and decode what was being said on that call and so she attempted to keep him

this guy didn't finish the job, complaints that he didn't go far enough and get away, but also an entire discussion that this was a false flag operation arranged by the democrats so they could go after our guns and win the midterm elections. >> and it's just crazy in a way. we see the facts that the police are putting out. they make it clear. there's been no interaction previous to this between the pelosis and this suspect. is there any way to convince people who in some ways you think might be reasonable, that this is actually -- this is a crime perpetrated by someone who obviously had an animus with speaker pelosi. >> there's rational people who listen in to information from multiple sources. there's people with strong opinions and then there's the conspiracy world. these are people who live in the
political adversaries. but nancy pelosi has emerged as this kind of primary enemy for people on the right. so to try to say that, oh, there's no connection between the two whatsoever seems to be a real reach. people have the right to say whatever they want. the question is is it a good idea to do so? i think we know it's a pretty dangerous ideas. >> at what point does that extremist political rhetoric cross the line threshold? >> in two ways, if there's action like this with the pelosis, of course, or if there is a specific threat, you can be prosecuted for making a threats against a federal official if instead of breaking into her home he had sent a letter to nancy pelosi saying "i'm going to come kill you tomorrow at your office," that would be actionable legally. otherwise, putting out these ideas into the world on social media generally speaking and not directed at a particular person
does margaret brennen have a fair point here? >> everybody needs to think about the well-being of paul pelosi and offering prayers to nancy pelosi and the pelosi family and hope he gets better soon. but what we need to focus on is lowering the temperature. some this rhetoric. completely condemning this despicable behavior and doing everything we can to stop this kind of political violence and political conversation. that's the most important thing we can do. anything that was done in the past in terms of this suggestive political violence, that should not happen and it should not happen as we move forward. again, the most important thing we can all do is offer our concern for the pelosis, offer our confidence in the law enforcement as they investigate this and certainly offer all the prayers we can give to the medical team that is providing him the medical care that he needs. we need to let the investigation in terms of this play out before we jump to any conclusions. >> what do you mean by that?
attacked this morning by an intruder who broke into their san francisco home. first word of this came from pelosi spokesperson drew hamel, a spokesperson for the speaker said that paul pelosi is in the hospital receiving treatment but is expected to make a full recovery. speaker pelosi was not at the home at time of the attack. the suspect is in police custody according to san francisco police. cnn's manu raju is following these breaking details coming in from capitol hill. what is the very latest that you're hearing? >> reporter: this is a scary and staggering situation that occurred, according to san francisco police, at 2:27 a.m. this morning. that is what we are learning that an assailant broke into the home of the pelosis through the back of the house and attacked mr. pelosi with a hammer. now, according to the speaker's office, mr. pelosi is in the hospital. he's received care and expected to make a full recovery. they give more detail in the statement from pelosi
