All New Jersey schools expected to be open for full time in-person learning by start of 2021-2022 academic year

"A full year is not how students move forward," he said.
He said the state's initial goal is to vaccinate 70% of the adult population, roughly 4.7 million people, and that Walmart is setting aside a minimum of 10,000 doses each week for seniors ages 65 and older.
"Defeating this virus means ensuring both equitable access and equitable distribution, and we're fully committed to this," he said.
Counting the initial doses of Pfizer and Moderna along with the number of Johnson & Johnson doses administered, the state is at roughly 45% of its target having received at least the first shot.
Murphy also announced the prohibition on outdoor interstate youth sports competitions will expire on Friday, though the ban on indoor interstate sports competitions will remain in effect.

Hey, do you remember back in the beginning of February when Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot told the Chicago Teachers Union that the teachers had to return to class in one week or she would “take action?” The union responded by threatening to go on strike. I’m still not sure how that was an effective strategy since they were already basically on strike anyway, but it bought them some additional time. The union insisted that all the teachers would need to be vaccinated before in-person classroom instruction could resume.

Pamplin Media Group - In Oregon, schools are reopening, but some students feel safer at home

In Oregon, schools are reopening, but some students feel safer at home
Years of maintenance issues within Portland schools have brewed mistrust of safety measures for COVID-19.
A year after schools across Oregon closed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Portland schools now are rushing to prepare classrooms for a return to in-person learning.
But not everyone is ready to go back to school.
Danny Cage, a sophomore at Grant High School, said as a student of color with underlying health issues, he doesn't feel safe attending school in person yet.
"I'm high risk and I have people in my house who are high risk," the teen said. "Even if I'm not sick, it's not safe to bring that back to anyone in my house."

The American Proof of Concept, Confirmed (Again) 1 Year Later

On the one-year anniversary of school shutdowns from Philadelphia to Portland, it is obvious that America has changed in many ways.
The way we handshake – if we shake hands – has changed from embraces to elbow and fist bumps. The commodities we coveted changed at one point, as spring outfits and St. Patrick’s Day accessories were cast aside for toilet paper and Lysol spray.
Government changed a lot. We saw the fulfillment of the infamous quote: “A government big enough to give you everything you want, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have.” That was because just as some things changed because we had to shift with the times, others tried to needlessly shift because of the times.

Farmworkers have been one of the hardest hit communities since the start of the pandemic.
(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. passed the milestone of administering more than 100 million Covid-19 shots. California said 13 counties can ease restrictions, including opening restaurants and movie theaters to 25% capacity. Michigan will begin vaccinating all people 16 years and older starting April 5.
