The Venice Symphony plans eight-concert season

During the last year, Quinn led a series of free digital programs featuring small, socially distanced ensembles performing from the Venice Performing Arts Center. President and CEO Christine Kasten said those programs reached a wide audience, but “there is nothing like the thrill of a live orchestra performance. We cannot wait to welcome everyone back safely to the concert hall in November.”
The organization’s 48th season will feature seven subscription series concerts leading up to “Songs From the Screen and Stage with Linda Eder,” a special program May 6-7.
It opens with “Brahms and The Boys” (Nov. 19-20) featuring Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 in E minor. Guest artist Thomas Hooten, principal trumpet for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major. The program also includes the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” and Bedrich Smetana’s overture from “The Bartered Bride.”

Exa Fay Hooten

1928-2021
Exa Fay Hooten was born at home in Floydada, Texas to Maude Latham Hooten and Richard W. Hooten on Aug. 27, 1928. She was the oldest of Tom and Lula (Brady) Latham’s many grandchildren and she felt a strong need to set an example for her cousins. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ and lived at Christian Village in Abilene throughout its tenure as a retirement facility.
Exa Fay’s parents valued education. Being teachers themselves, their livelihoods required frequent moves. In 1940 Exa Fay enrolled in Woodson school. During the times that her mother completed graduate coursework at Texas Tech, Exa Fay lived with Maude’s parents on their Masters Community farm while her brother, Alton Ray, stayed with some of Maude’s siblings.
