Inside how Palmetto Championship at Congaree came to life

Flyover: Congaree Golf Club
Three months, give or take a day or two. That’s how long this week’s Palmetto Championship at Congaree had taken to go from idea to reality.
The open date on the PGA TOUR became available on March 9 when the RBC Canadian Open announced that it would not be played for the second straight year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The disclosure set off a burst of activity that essentially began with a meeting in South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster’s office. Among those attending was Ty Votaw, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of the PGA TOUR; Duane Parrish, director of the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism; and Bruce Davidson, co-director of golf at Congaree Golf Club.

PGA tour announces charitable impact from WGC-Workday Championship | East County

Officials from the World Golf Championships-Workday Championship at The Concession, which was held at The Concession Golf Club in February, announced Thursday that the tournament raised more than $400,000 for organizations in the Bradenton-Sarasota area.
Those organizations include the First Tee of Sarasota/Manatee and the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Student Scholarship Fund.
“It was an honor to host a World Golf Championships event and be granted the opportunity to showcase the Bradenton-Sarasota Area and The Concession Golf Club to the world,” Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau executive director Elliott Falcione said in a release. “But learning just how significantly the tournament also impacted our local community through charitable donation is truly icing on the cake. On behalf of the destination, I would like to thank the PGA Tour and Workday for all they did to bring the event to the Bradenton-Sarasota Area and for their additional efforts to also give back to those who call it home.”

Matt Fitzpatrick dives deep into stats to get the most from his game

Matt Fitzpatrick dives deep into stats to get the most from his game

Matt Fitzpatrick’s love for Harbour Town Golf Links
As with any advancement, there are skeptics. Especially if this new technology creates added work for an unproven benefit. It can be even harder when college kids, some of whom struggle just to make their bed, are the ones being asked to put in the extra effort.
That was what Northwestern golf coach Pat Goss realized during his first foray into advanced statistics for his college team.
Teams had been collecting simple stats like fairways hit and greens in regulation for years. Those are of little value, however. Goss was an early adopter of Strokes Gained and knew these new analytics could help his players. But without ShotLink, players needed to record detailed data for every stroke. They needed to pace off their putts, record exact distances and then enter all that data after the round. Guessing wasn’t good enough.
