Special teams lift Mountaineers to semifinals

Special teams lift Mountaineers to semifinals
March 10, 2021BERLIN — The Berlin-Gorham boys' hockey team utilized three shorthanded goals en route to a 6-2 victory over the Plymouth-Kearsarge Cats this past Saturday at the Notre Dame Arena. The win catapults the Mountaineers into the semifinal round of the NHIAA Division III hockey playoffs to be played Wednesday, March 10, at Everett Arena in Concord against the Lebanon-Stevens-Mount Royal Red Raiders. The Mountaineers struggled against the Raiders this season, going 1-2-1 in four regular season matchups against them.
On Saturday, Brody Duquette would open the scoring in the first period as he streaked down the right wing side and entered the offensive zone before firing a seeing eye slapshot past Cats goaltender Gavin Garzia to give the Mountaineers a first period lead. Joanah Berthiume started the play by chipping the puck out of the defensive zone off the glass to find a streaking Duquette through the neutral zone. The two teams would go to the locker room separated by just one goal as the Mountaineer outshot the Cats 8-5 in the opening stanza.

Tenor Jack Swanson Tackles a Recital in 4 Languages for HGO

Tenor Jack Swanson was supposed to be doing Rossini's
La Cenerentola in January and February at Houston Grand Opera but those plans like many others were scuttled by COVID-19.
Instead he was offered and accepted the chance to film an HGO Digital installment of
Live at the Cullen, a selection of songs in recital with HGO Director of Artistic Operations and Chorus Master Richard Bado that will begin airing this Friday.
And although he is known for performing works by Rossini and Donizetti, with the exception of one final song by Rossini, Swanson's program decided upon by himself and Bado, will present a variety of music by other composers.
