국제 빈곤퇴치 사회운동단체인 ‘글로벌 시티즌(Global Citizen)’은 오는 9월 25일 ‘글로벌 시티즌 라이브’ 온라인 콘서트를 연다고 14일 밝혔다.

이날 일부 공개된 출연진에는 방탄소년단 외에도 빌리 아일리시, 콜드플레이, 에드 시런, 숀 멘데스 등 세계적인 팝스타들이 총출동했다. 그린데이, 메탈리카, 퀸 객원보컬 아담 램버트 등 락스타는 물론 랑랑, 안드레아 보첼리 등 클래식 스타도 이름을 올렸다. 전체 라인업은 8월 중 공개된다.

이들은 아프리카‧아시아‧호주‧유럽‧중동‧미 대륙에서 다양한 공연과 이벤트를 촬영하고, 서울‧두바이‧런던‧LA 등 주요 도시의 상징적 장소에서 라이브 공연도 선보일 예정이다. 이번 행사는 9월 25일 미국 ABC, 영국 BBC, Fx, 유튜브 등에서 24시간 동안 생중계된다. 글로벌 시티즌 측은 "세계적인 활동가와 리더들도 참석할 예정"이라며 이번 콘서트를 "세기에 한 번 있을 법한" 24시간 방송이 될 것이라고 소개했다.

글로벌 시티즌은 환경보호‧빈곤퇴치를 위한 캠페인을 진행하는 단체로, 2012년부터 해마다 자선공연 ‘글로벌 시티즌 페스티벌’을 열어왔다. 온라인 콘서트는 코로나19로 인해 지난해 4월 처음 열렸다. ‘원 월드: 투게더 앳 홈(One World: Together At Home)’ 이라는 이름으로 열린 지난해 콘서트는 레이디 가가, WHO, 글로벌 시티즌 공동 주최로 8시간 동안 열려 약 1억 3000만 달러의 기부금을 모았다. 한국 아티스트로는 슈퍼엠이 참가했다. 특히 행사를 기획한 레이디 가가는 애플 등 68개 기업 CEO와 직접 화상통화를 하며 사전에 기부금 약 430억원을 모아 WHO에 전달하고, 코로나19 대응에 힘쓰는 의료진에 감사의 메시지를 전하기도 했다.

글로벌 시티즌은 코로나19 종식을 앞당기기 위해 9월까지 백신 10억명분을 필요한 나라들에 지원하고, 코로나19로 인한 여파를 극복하기 위해 25억달러의 기금을 조성하는 캠페인을 진행 중이다. 이번 온라인 콘서트도 캠페인의 일환으로 진행될 예정이다.

"This picture is technically outstanding in its use of light and composition," awards founder and director Caroline Kenyon says.
"But what raises it to the level of historic importance is the depth of its storytelling and emotion.
"It tells of a year of isolation and living indoors, living in tiny communities of immediate family.

Racing New South Wales has frozen the prize money of owner Phoenix Thoroughbreds, reports
Just Horse Racing, over allegations the founder Amer Abdulaziz is involved in money laundering.
“Racing NSW has investigated the matter and any allegation made in respect to legal proceedings internationally is denied by Mr. Abdulaziz,” said Racing NSW chairman of stewards Marc Van Gestel. “Pending the outcome of those matters Racing NSW is freezing the prizemoney of horses raced by Phoenix Thoroughbreds.”
Just Horse Racing reports: “In January, Phoenix and Canberra casino owner Tony Fung were the top buyers at the Magic Millions yearlings sale having spent $11.6 million on 19 horses.”
